Best practices for cleaning your RICOH Interactive Flat Panel Display (IFPD)

Summary

How to clean your IFPD

Read time: 3 minutes

Interactive flat panel displays are meant for collaboration. In the interest of everyone’s best health, it’s essential to clean your hardware.

In this article, we answer common questions regarding the cleaning and disinfecting of IFPD hardware (flat panel display, pen, and eraser). You will also find guidance on how to clean your hardware and erasers.

What cleaners can I use on my RICOH IFPD?

You can use most types of antibacterial wipes and sprays. If you use wipes, they should be damp enough to leave moisture behind, but not so damp that moisture pools, drips, or runs down your screen.

Are there any cleaners I should not use on my IFPD?

Do not use any cleaners that have:

  • Bleach

  • Ammonia

  • Organic solvents

  • Abrasives

Please note: Chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite) should not be used. A disinfectant of hypochlorous acid water can be used.

Always read the disinfectant manufacturer’s use instructions carefully.

Can I spray directly on the surface of the display?

Never spray disinfectant on the surface. You do not want any liquid to get inside and damage the device. Instead, spray first on a soft cloth. With the moist cloth, apply gently. You don’t need to scrub the surface. The disinfectant will do all the work.

If you are using a spray, we recommend using a lint-free microfiber cloth to clean your IFPD surface. Do not use paper towels.

How to clean your IFPD

For antibacterial wipes or sprays to work, the cleaner must sit on the surface for 3 to 5 minutes to kill the germs. Budget time into meetings for cleaning of the IFPD equipment at the end, so the IFPD can be completely cleaned before someone else uses it.

To clean your IFPD:

1. Turn off and unplug the power cord.

2. Make your disinfectant wipes are adequately damp. If using a spray, use a clean, soft cloth.

3. Wipes can be immediately applied. Sprays should be applied to the cloth first.

4. Always test it on a small, less visible area of the screen in case the cleaner causes discoloration or damage.

5. It’s best practices to wipe down all pieces of equipment after a meeting, even if you did not use them.

6. Use a soft cloth and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions to remove any residue.

The best way to clean your IFPD eraser

You cannot use disinfectants on all erasers. Ricoh IFPDs have two types of erasers.

Eraser Type 1. You can use disinfectant with this one. This eraser comes with the following models:

  • D5530BK

  • D6520BK

  • D7510BK

  • D8600BK

Apply disinfectant wipes directly. For sprays, apply to cloth and then wipe down the eraser.

Eraser Type 2. Do Not use disinfectant. It may damage the eraser and make it unusable.

Please note: Use a dry cloth or brush to remove dust from the surface of the eraser. Use of disinfectant may stain (darken) the cloth of the eraser. It should not have an effect on how the eraser works.

If you have any other questions, just ask. We’re here for you.
