Case Study: Katy Independent School District

Restoring confidence in the in-house print shop with Managed Print Services

About Katy Independent School District

Katy ISD encompasses 181 square miles in southeast Texas. More than 70,000 students attend 60 schools, including seven high schools. The district has 9,039 employees, of whom more than 4,500 are teachers. The Texas Education Agency gave Katy ISD the highest possible rating.

We conducted an upfront assessment to identify the reasons why Katy ISD couldn't complete projects in a timely manner.

Armed with this information, we implemented:

Managed Print Services
  • Managed Print Services for the print shop and a fleet of output devices located across 50+ campuses.

Support and training
  • Round-the-clock support.

  • Staff training on equipment.

Print management tools
  • Print management tools

  • Online interface for job submission.

  • A tracking system that enables Katy ISD to monitor jobs and stay on top of both expenses and savings.

With new workflows and our managed services, the Katy ISD print shop offers 48-hour turnaround time from job submission to completion.

Confidence is restored in the print shop, and the volume proves it: more than 4 million impressions a month now, compared to the previous 1.5 million. Better yet, 99% of their printing is done in-house, whereas previously 80% was outsourced. In a recent school year, Katy ISD saved $350,000.
