The Challenge

The Challenge

Philip Davis and Lynn Nelson weren't new to Alphagraphics when they partnered to take over a franchise that was profitable, but not growing. Seeing the possibilities, the two combined their printing expertise to implement a growth model in Lehi, Utah that corporate could tout as a thriving operation and training ground for new franchisees. But the production equipment from another manufacturer in Lehi didn't support ambitious growth plans. They needed better, faster systems to expand services, improve turnaround times and elevate print capabilities. So, they set out to upgrade their production print processes and technology.

"We landed a new customer with 130 locations and hitting the PMS color on their logo was critical. We tested it on our old machine and on the RICOH Pro C9100, and the Ricoh system was able to hold color extremely well. So we replaced our machine with the Pro C9100."

With their current equipment up for renewal or replacement, they began to explore our offerings to set their growth plans in motion.

After running our Pro C7110X production color unit successfully for two years, they once again turned to us when they wanted to kick their growth plans into high gear. It was the right move. Our advanced solutions ticked all the boxes on their wish list and they purchased:

  • A heavy-duty production color digital press and booklet maker to meet aggressive turnaround times and produce near offset print quality—at a competitive price.
  • New black-and-white production printers with 1200 x 4800 dpi to produce reports, booklets, newsletters and more with crisp text and images.
  • A wide-format flatbed UV printer to double their indoor and outdoor signage business and open new revenue streams such as printing on glass and other substrates up to two inches thick.

About Alphagraphics Lehi, Utah

Philip Davis and Lynn Nelson purchased the Alphagraphics Lehi, UT franchise in 2016 from its previous owner. Result

Partnering with us has delivered on all fronts and Alphagraphics is now equipped for rapid growth.

  • With the Pro C7110X and a 5th color station, they can spot coat business cards with clear ink and produce eye-catching menus and wedding invitations with white ink. The oversized print tray can be used to produce up to 13" x 27.5" event pieces and catalogs—all with a short-run digital press that's affordable and easy to run.
  • The high-speed Pro C9100 press and Plockmatic Booklet Maker enabled them to accommodate a quick-turn, overnight request for 4,500 booklets.
  • With the Pro 8120 units, they're achieving the high quality of a color digital press with a black-and-white unit. And the wide-format flatbed printer gives them the ability to print a variety of short-run signage they previously had to outsource.

"I think our future with Ricoh is very bright. I have been doing this for a very long time and I don't know if I've ever had a supplier treat me on the service side the way Ricoh has," said Philip Davis, co-owner of Alphagraphics, Lehi, Utah.
