We had worked with this law firm for a number of years, providing document management solutions. When one of their major clients had a complicated eDiscovery matter — involving the misappropriation of company data by a former employee, to that individual's personal data accounts — the firm reached out for help.

Having worked with us in the past, they were aware of Ricoh Forensics's comprehensive portfolio of eDiscovery solutions and national reputation for eDiscovery technology and expertise. Our teams offer corporate counsel and law firms a full suite of capabilities for the identification, collection, verification, logging and analysis of electronically stored information (ESI).

Over the course of negotiations between the law firm and counsel for the former employee, an agreement was reached between the two parties to allow an audit of these personal data accounts.

Our team met with counsel for both parties to provide the expertise needed to devise a cost-effective plan to search for, verify and remediate company data contained in the personal accounts, and to conduct a follow-up search to verify that the data was effectively and entirely removed from the personal accounts.

The plan included:

Icon that represents Search.

The development of a list of relevant search terms and an efficient, comprehensive and documented search strategy.

Icon that represents Verify.

A procedure for privilege review by the attorneys.

Icon that represents Review.

Follow-up verification to ensure that company data was removed.

After the initial search and removal of the sensitive information, the Ricoh team recommended a follow-up search — which revealed that some company data had repopulated on the former employee’s iCloud account. Further analysis traced the information to an iPhone not previously identified in the negotiations. The information was also removed from that account as well.

Our carefully executed plan was a success.

We were able to successfully remove the company's sensitive data from the employee's personal accounts and help the company resolve the matter through negotiations — avoiding expensive litigation.

We also were able to provide the law firm’s client with the peace of mind that its data was secure. Based on both their past success with Ricoh, and their satisfaction with our course of action, the firm will use our eDiscovery services again in the future.
