Camera Solution Relates Images to Barcodes

Pictures play an important role in many barcode-based workflows. Unfortunately the devices available today for scanning barcodes do not accommodate the needs of workflows that require detailed pictures of the objects that the barcode relates to.

By combining barcode scanning with digital imaging, the 500SE provides a complete Data-Imaging solution.

About the Data-Imaging Camera Solution
  • World's first integrated barcode-enabled digital camera associates images to barcodes and automates upload and integration of pictures and data

Major Applications
  • Ideal for organizations whose information workflows involve pictures as well as barcode information

Benefits
  • Faster workflow completion and significantly reduced opportunities for human error

  • Immediate availability of acquired images and associated data

  • Eliminates manual processes to separately scan barcoded forms, download pictures from a memory device and associate the files

  • Eliminates time and expense of shipping physical materials to the home office for processing

Using the Data-Imaging Camera Solution
  • Automatic association of images to barcodes - simply scan a bar code with the camera then take a picture

  • Additional meta-data can be associated with captured images through a user-configurable menu system on the camera (date and time are also recorded)

  • Scanned barcode and user-entered data are stored in the image EXIF header

  • Once uploaded to a PC or server, the images can be automatically integrated with databases and associated with documents based on their barcode or entered data

Implementing this Solution
  • Turn-key solution features camera, with integrated barcode scanning, and on-board software

  • Images are uploaded electronically directly from the 500SE Camera to the home office server via Internet/FTP

  • Automated instruction scripts that seek the keywords in the image's EXIF header determine how to route, store, or process the image

Complementary Products
  • Use this solution with eCabinet for electronic file storage
