POINT, CLICK, CONNECT: a camera made for healthcare

Ricoh Healthcare Camera

In healthcare, photos can be extremely helpful in delivering and documenting care. But if poorly implemented—using consumer-grade cameras or personal mobile devices—patient photos can do more harm than good. In fact, you can introduce security, infection and other risks into your operations.

Ricoh Healthcare Camera is the first solution of its kind. Designed for the rigorous requirements of healthcare, it is industrial shock proof and stands up to water and disinfectants. Using just the camera, a clinician can scan patient barcodes and then use manual entry or pick lists to embed metadata into each image file. That metadata can include a wide range of patient information—from additional barcodes to an audio file.

The camera interoperates with virtually any healthcare information system—including electronic medical record (EMR) systems from major vendors. Because of wireless and Bluetooth® functionality, it automatically uploads images to your systems. That means clinicians don’t have to leave the bedside or worry about deleting images from the camera itself. Images and metadata are transmitted wirelessly, assigned to each patient’s medical record and available for viewing within minutes.

Ricoh Healthcare Camera is suited to a wide range of use cases in an equally wide range of healthcare settings. It’s ideal for capturing images during patient intake and for documenting patient conditions. Clinicians can use these images to collaborate on diagnoses and monitor outcomes. The camera also provides valuable documentation for use in legal and insurance matters.

With a long history of making information work for the healthcare industry, Ricoh’s people understand the complex challenges you face and the considerations you must address when implementing new technology. Let us help you explore use cases for the Ricoh Healthcare Camera—and partner with you to develop a new, simplified workflow or incorporate the solution into an existing process.
  • Process. We will work hand in hand with your team to assess your current environment, design an effective solution and implement it within your facilities. We also offer end-user training and ongoing support to help you maximize the return on your investment. With a deep understanding of HIPAA and other security and privacy requirements, we will partner to help you ensure that images and information are properly safeguarded—yet still available when and where you need them.
  • Technology. The core of this solution is the Ricoh G700SE—our market-leading camera for healthcare. We also offer integration software to provide the necessary linkages between the camera and your EMR, EHR or other healthcare IT system.
Challenges Addressed
Every healthcare organization is under pressure to simplify and streamline clinical processes—while improving the quality, safety and efficiency of care. Photographs can be important tools in building more detailed patient records. But using consumer-grade cameras and other mobile devices to take pictures introduces these challenges:
  • Inability to recognize barcodes and link images to patient medical records
  • Inefficiency and inaccuracy associated with manual processes
  • Contamination risk and lack of durability
  • Files transferred physically from one storage media to another
  • Potential loss of images or breach of image security
  • Opportunities to simplify processes—decreasing the likelihood of human error
Benefits Attained
We designed the Ricoh Healthcare Camera to make information work in healthcare settings. It offers wireless and Bluetooth® connectivity plus barcode scanning—and is the only one to offer all of those features while integrating with virtually any EMR, EHR or other healthcare IT system. That means your clinicians can use the camera to scan patient barcodes, take patient photos, embed important data right into the image files, and transmit the files to your medical records system—all without leaving the patient.

Improve clinical processes and collaboration
  • Build more detailed and thorough patient medical records
  • Streamline image capture and sharing with wireless transmission
  • Support diagnostic and treatment decisions by giving clinicians rapid access to accurate, high-quality images
Enhance the safety and efficiency of care
  • Use barcode scanning to help ensure that images are assigned to the correct patient medical record
  • Enable clinicians to take photographs, embed metadata into the images, and transmit them to the appropriate patient record—all without leaving the patient
  • Help reduce the risk of adverse medical events by supporting data integrity and limiting the need for error-prone manual entry
Address security and privacy requirements
  • Delete images automatically after they’re transmitted to your server, en route to the EMR, EHR or other system
  • Avoid the risks associated with use of consumer-grade cameras—where images lack embedded metadata and must be manually transferred from various storage media to computers
  • Avoid the risks of clinicians using their own smartphones to take photos, which can then be vulnerable to loss or inappropriate use, as well as insecure data transfer to an unauthorized destination
