June 2015

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced its participation in SkillsUSA’s 51st Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC). SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high-school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations. As part of its Graphic Communications sponsorship, Ricoh is providing several RICOH Pro C5100s, one of its leading color digital printing system, offering attendees hands-on technical experience with one of the most popular printing systems operating in businesses today.

SkillsUSA, taking place June 22-26 in Louisville, KY will feature The SkillsUSA Championships, a showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. It rewards students for excellence, involves industry experts who directly evaluate student performance, and keeps training relevant employers’ needs.

“In an ever-evolving production printing market, we at Ricoh see great value in participating in events like SkillsUSA, where we are given the opportunity to educate students on the latest trends, technologies and industry demands in this space,” said John Fulena, Vice President, Production Printing Business Group for Ricoh Americas Corporation. “In doing so, we are able to help future small business owners and enterprise executives prepare for what to expect in the industry as they begin their careers. We’re excited to be showcasing the RICOH Pro C5100s at this year’s conference and interested to see how students react to the versatility, speed and ease of use of the system.”

This year, participation in the SkillsUSA Championships’ Graphic Communications competition consists of an eight part contest which includes: digital press, digital workflow, electronic prepress, finishing, offset press operations, oral professional assessment, production planning and technical knowledge test. Ricoh will participate in the digital press segment where students will be challenged to set up a Ricoh device for proper file transfer, create a finished product that may consist of variable data or inline finishing, and finish with a short written test. Ricoh will also be giving away RICOH Theta cameras to this year’s SkillsUSA Championships winners.

For the first time ever, SkillsUSA, Ricoh and other industry partners will bring the Industry Supporting Its Future Workforce booth to this year’s GRAPH EXPO’s Education Main Street with a goal to encourage the youth to consider the graphic communications and printing industry as a career choice.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled the 5th Color Kit, a valuable collection of applications that commercial printers can use to demonstrate eye-catching five-color output to their customers. These practical applications – including tickets, fliers, badges and other documents commercial print customers often shop for – are bundled with step-by-step instructions for users looking to replicate them, along with detailed, need-to-know procedures like switching between white and clear toner. The 5th Color Kit is available for viewing at the Ricoh booth, #300, at IPMA in Orlando, Fla., this week.

The affordability of the RICOH Pro C7100X series gives printers the ability to broaden their portfolios. Now they can produce applications that take full advantage of the vastly expanded creative range a fifth color station affords. Expanded capabilities include the use of a much wider variety of substrates, as well as working with designs that could not be adequately reproduced by a four-color process.

“Commercial printers are seeking to expand into new markets, such as retail and fashion, at an affordable price point,” said John Fulena, Vice President, Production Print Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “What’s great about the 5th Color Kit is that it’s a practical guide that empowers them to do just that. It highlights the kind of applications commercial printers are looking for to increase revenues and incremental business – while also helping their customers deliver new, value-added services to their end users.”

“We are always open to new opportunities and have been looking to break into high-end retail for a long time but we needed the right technology at the right price to deliver the results these types of clients demand,” said Nathaniel Grant, owner of GAM Graphics and Marketing. “Now, with the 5th Color Kit from Ricoh and the RICOH Pro C7100X, we’re doing the work we’ve always wanted to do, and we’re more profitable than ever. And I’m loving it.”

Ricoh today continued pushing the boundaries of information mobility with a new big-screen interactive whiteboard enabling collaboration with more than 160 onsite and remote participants at once.

The new RICOH Interactive Whiteboard D5510 – being demoed at InfoComm 2015 now through June 19 in Orlando, Florida, at Ricoh’s Booth #4043 – is ideal for a wide range of presentation and collaboration activities, including all-inclusive corporate strategy sessions, architectural reviews, education, interactive training sessions, legal team case development and much more.

Presenters can create drawings, review designs, edit documents and share meeting notes on a 55-inch-diagonal HD screen, incorporating interactive content from their PCs or thumb drives. The RICOH D5510’s streamlined tablet-like design enables even first-time users to easily write, draw, edit, move, resize and save content via intuitive touch-screen controls. No software downloads, calibration or training is required.

Presenters can invite up to 168 participants to view images and information via a virtual private network connecting up to eight RICOH D5510s. Annotations made on one RICOH D5510 appear instantaneously on the other seven and throughout the audience connected to them.

“In this new world of work, presenters need to share their best ideas instantly, broadly and securely in whatever way best enlightens the audience,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Visual Communications Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “With the new RICOH Interactive Whiteboard D5510, workers can collaborate and interact using multiple whiteboards connected over a virtual private network, or via their PCs and mobile devices. There are virtually no more boundaries to collaboration, except the ones you want to enforce, and the D5510’s unparalleled security makes that easy.”

Security is paramount
Participants log into RICOH D5510 whiteboard sessions via password, and all data is erased from the whiteboard after the presentation is closed, helping protect the user’s most critical business information. Other interactive whiteboards are essentially full-blown computers, not only making them complex to use but vulnerable to viruses and intruders. The RICOH D5510 is a simple-to-operate firmware-based system that is more resistant to intrusion.

The RICOH D5510 improves on its predecessor, the RICOH Interactive Whiteboard D5500, with new HDMI inputs for true HD video playback and audio ports for speakers. New intelligent character recognition (ICR) capability now captures words on the screen as searchable text in password-protected PDF documents. The new interface includes intuitive nested commands arranged according to common workflows as well as a new set of auto shapes, including lines, arrows and stamps.

The smooth-writing, natural-feeling electronic pen is included with the RICOH D5510 and features a soft-touch nib and erase function in the base, enabling fine lines that are critical for marking up engineering and other detailed documents. Users can easily print, save or email the content from the screen. The whiteboard’s 1920 x 1080 dpi resolution provides optimal clarity for detail created by the pen or presented in drawings or schematics.

Connect to other Ricoh devices for an enhanced experience
Users can extend the power of the RICOH D5510 by creating remote interactive whiteboards on their walls using the RICOH PJ WX4141NI business projection system and a PC connection. The RICOH D5510 can also be used as a high-quality display for Ricoh’s Unified Communication System – the RICOH P3500 or other videoconferencing systems while sharing information via the RICOH D5510’s picture-in-picture function.

The RICOH Interactive Whiteboard D5510 is available now at a suggested retail price of $7,140 for the whiteboard, $1,126 for the optional stand and $1,200 for a collaboration license.

More interactive whiteboards on the way
InfoComm 2015 attendees will also get a first look at a slightly larger whiteboard system, the RICOH Interactive Whiteboard D6500, set to launch this fall. Customizable for business or education, the RICOH D6500 will feature a 65-inch HD display with enhanced touch capabilities.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced that Ethan Novek of Greenwich High School in Connecticut and Robert Z. Halfon of American Heritage School of Boca Delray in Florida have been selected as this year’s recipients of the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award (RSDA) for innovations in alternative energy and waste management solutions at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) 2015. The award program, bestowed by Ricoh for the 11th consecutive year, honors students who develop innovations that strengthen environmental sustainability. At Intel ISEF 2015, the RSDA highlights the efforts of exceptional students, supporting Ricoh’s efforts to enable a sustainable future for the new world of work.

By demonstrating economic and efficient solutions that will help create a more resilient business climate and support a sustainable future, honorees Novek and Halfon were awarded a total of $25,000 in scholarships from Ricoh.

“It’s rewarding to see students every year who take their ingenuity, talent and hard work and create new innovative solutions that demonstrate that achieving environmental sustainability in today’s new world of work is possible,” said John Brophy, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Ricoh is proud to support these young innovators in their future endeavors and to continue encouraging students to join us in our mission to enable information mobility solutions that will encourage an environmentally sustainable future.”

Novek developed a low grade waste heat recovery system that generates electricity by engineering a concentration gradient using carbon dioxide emissions and recycled ammonia in an Osmotic Heat Engine. As a result, Novek was able to produce 14.4Wh of electricity per carbon dioxide molecule scrubbed, translating to 180 MWh per day from a 500 MW power plant. This proposed system proved that it could dramatically lower the cost of carbon capture/sequestration and could convert other waste products into valuable urea, while simultaneously improving the efficiency of power plants and industrial facilities.

Halfon took a different approach and sought to address inefficient waste management and harmful nonrenewable energy sources by means of micro-scale anaerobic digestion. In doing so, Halfon tested theories that suggested food substances with a neutral pH would yield high amounts of biogas and that 70 mM of ferrous sulfate would substantially increase its production. The results of Halfon’s project concluded that neutral pH was found to be 417 percent more efficient than acidic pH, ferrous sulfate treatment was found to increase biogas production by 136.28 percent. Ultimately, Halfon realized an overall 976.05 percent increase in biogas production with all variables controlled and implemented.

As part of the Special Awards Ceremony at Intel ISEF, Ricoh presents the RSDA recognition to students who develop new innovations that support the company’s goal to spread environmentally and socially responsible business practices. Ricoh’s involvement in this initiative has resulted in nearly $400,000 in scholarships being awarded to 28 students throughout the company’s 11 years of participation.

The RSDA is an integral part of Ricoh’s mission to pass down its vision of a sustainable society to the next generation, reinforcing Ricoh’s belief in four pillars of sustainability: energy conservation, resource conservation and recycling, pollution prevention, and biodiversity conservation. In support of this vision, Ricoh strives to minimize its environmental impact from resource extraction, energy consumption, chemical discharges, emissions and other activities, and to conserve the Earth’s precious resources. Additionally, Ricoh supports a business model that minimizes the footprint of its activities while maximizing its economic value and contribution to society.

With so much of the world’s business information gridlocked and unsecured, Ricoh is giving its customers a new, better way to access information through an expanded partnership with EMC® Corporation. Ricoh will extend its services offerings to include EMC Syncplicity®, a powerful enterprise file synchronization and sharing solution, which will serve as another tool to help Ricoh customers improve workflow and make information accessible to those who need it to run their business – known as information mobility.

This agreement expands Ricoh’s increasingly strategic partnership with EMC’s Enterprise Content Division, a longtime partner providing Ricoh and its customers with content management solutions including document capture and document management.

Syncplicity is a subscription service that gives workforces all the mobility and flexibility of personal cloud file-sharing solutions, such as Dropbox, with additional capabilities to help satisfy IT’s growing concerns surrounding security, administration, control, enterprise visibility and audit trails for compliance. Syncplicity is an elegant alternative to using FTP sites, which can be cumbersome and offer limited administrative controls, as well as email to transfer large files, whose size restrictions often block photos and video sharing.

“At Ricoh, we’re focused on helping customers manage their ever-changing workflow needs in today’s dynamic work environment,” said Jason Dizzine, Director, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Having the ability to seamlessly access and share digital files across multiple computing platforms is one essential component.”

Like personal cloud storage services, Syncplicity provides workers with seamless access to documents, files and shared folders from their PCs, tablets, smartphones, and Web browsers both inside and outside of the office. Workers can keep files where they are and share them with one click – no extra dragging and dropping. The software automatically syncs newest versions across all authorized users and devices.

Syncplicity, however, also helps solve a growing security threat posed by the increasing use of personal cloud storage services. These consumer-class services offer IT little to no visibility or control, and put sensitive data at risk. For example, users who leave a company can potentially take proprietary information with them.

More than 8 in 10 (84 percent) of IT professionals surveyed by Harris Poll in 2014 agreed that “adoption of free file synchronization and sharing products by employees creates a potential security problem.” Ricoh’s deepening partnership with EMC helps customers address this issue. Syncplicity offers industry leading security, administration and control features to help keep files secure and organizations in compliance. IT, for example, can manage read, write and access permissions folder by folder and document by document. IT can also remotely wipe corporate data from workers personal devices if they leave their jobs. With Syncplicity’s policy-driven StorageVaults, file storage can be in the cloud, on premise or in a hybrid cloud (a combination of both).

That’s why Ricoh and EMC are addressing the problem. Jeetu Patel, GM of Syncplicity Business Unit said, “The new mobile workforce is demanding ways to easily access, share and collaborate on files on all their devices. To enhance mobile productivity and prevent files from leaking into the consumer-oriented file sharing solutions, enterprise file sync and share solutions need to be able to bridge the gap between files no matter where they live – both digital and non-digital. We are excited to be working with Ricoh, a clear leader in helping businesses gain control of both digital and physical documents in the workplace, as they deliver innovative productivity and file security solutions to both their own workforce and to their customers.”

Ricoh today announced seven new projectors that fit into a wide range of business and education applications. This new lineup includes Desk Edge, Short Throw, and Standard Install models that help businesses and schools collaborate more effectively in today’s dynamic communications environment.

“Our projection technology has evolved rapidly to offer customers a wide range of features and solutions,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Visual Communications Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “These new projectors are brighter, easier to position, and offer greater connectivity to bring participants together for better, more effective information sharing sessions.”

The new systems – which will be on display during InfoComm 2015, June 17-19 in Orlando, FL at Ricoh’s booth #4043 – include:

• A short-throw projection system capable of displaying an image between 60 – 400 inches diagonal at a resolution of up to WXGA from 24” – 169.6”. Ideal for mounting in education settings, the new RICOH PJ X4241N and RICOH PJ WX4241N series enables an instructor to stand in front of a screen without casting a shadow or being blinded by glare. Presenters can use an optional electronic pen to mark up the image or drive the device (PC, laptop, etc.) that is projecting the image. This de facto interactive whiteboard system can be part of an online interactive conference involving more than 160 people.

The series includes improved brightness over predecessor models at 3,300 lumens. A new 360-degree installation capability makes it easy to project images onto floors and ceilings for striking presentations or marketing experiences. Standard Miracast functionality creates a peer-to-peer wireless connection enabling the projector to display content directly from Microsoft Windows and Android mobile devices. Standard wireless and Wi-Fi connectivity on the PJ WX4241N, a first for Ricoh, enables users to simultaneously operate the device from either network, especially helpful for hosting guest presenters. Other new features include 4-point Keystone correction, MPEG4 files played back from a USB drive, and WPA2-Enterprise security.

• A new desk-edge system designed to be placed on the end of a conference room table, which frees up working surface and directs heat, glare, wires and fan sounds away from the participants. The RICOH PJ X3351N and RICOH PJ WX3351N are capable of projecting an image 40 - 400-inches diagonal from a distance of 30.3” – 481.9” at a resolution of up to WXGA. Ideal for business, the portable systems are brighter than predecessor models at 3,500 lumens and include the same 360-degree, Miracast, wired/wireless connectivity and wireless security as the new short-throw models.

• A new line of brighter Standard Install projectors, including Ricoh’s first HD projector. Designed for small-to-mid-sized conference rooms, the RICOH PJ X5460, RICOH PJ WX5460 and RICOH PJ HD5450 projectors display images up to 300-inches diagonal at a resolution of up to 1080p. Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled three light, bright and versatile projectors offering high-quality performance at affordable prices.

The projection systems help schools and businesses achieve higher levels of information mobility and better outcomes by dynamically sharing information previously locked in digital files or paper.

The RICOH PJ S2240, RICOH PJ X2240 and RICOH PJ WX2240 can display images from PCs, cameras, video cameras and DVD players. The projection systems provide a range of resolution – SGA, XGA and WXGA resolution respectively – at a brightness of up to 3,100 lumens (3,000 for the RICOH PJ S2240 and RICOH PJ X2240). They project images of 30 inches to 300 inches measured diagonally, but are as easy to carry as a laptop, weighing only 5.75 pounds in a 12.5-x-9-x-4-inch package.

Ricoh will demo the projection systems at InfoComm 2015, June 17-19 in Orlando, Fla.(Booth 4043).

“These new, affordable projectors were designed specifically for schools that require bright, high-performance projectors, but are working under tight budgets,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Visual Communications Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “New, more engaging ways of learning and working mean better results from time invested in the classroom and workplace.”

The RICOH PJ S2240, RICOH PJ X2240 and RICOH PJ WX2240 include an HDMI input for display of Blu-ray movies, a high contrast ratio (10,000:1) for sharper detail, and whisper-quiet operation at less than 34 decibels. An Eco Mode option reduces power consumption, extends lamp life to 6,000 hours and further reduces noise. The systems include a remote control and all cables. Glasses for viewing 3D media are an available option for all Ricoh DLP projectors.

All three models are available now and include a three-year warranty. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices are: RICOH PJ S2240, $462; RICOH PJ X2240, $587; and RICOH PJ WX2240, $700.

Ricoh today introduced a new printer and multifunction product (MFP) line that brings big-business power and reliability to small offices and home offices.

The monochrome RICOH SP 3600DN printer and RICOH SP 3600SF/SP 3610SF MFP produce 31 pages per minute using Ricoh’s new LED print technology, which delivers 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution without loss of print speed.

The devices include powerful technology to advance customers’ information mobility, including printing from smartphones and tablets via the RICOH Smart Device Print&Scan app, and the ability to scan paper documents and convert them to digital files for sending via email and storage on network folders, USB drives and FTP sites. Compact dimensions (as small as 15 x 15 x 10.5 inches) make the devices small enough to fit on a desktop, an advantage for the increasing number of home-based workers.

The RICOH SP 3600DN printer and SP 3600SF/SP 3610SF MFP handle paper sizes up to 8.5 x 14 inches, stocks up to 90 lb. Index, and paper loads of up to 850 sheets. Operating costs are reduced by features such as the machines’ two-part supply design, which enables separate changing of the toner or drum, as well as standard duplexing and low energy consumption (EPEAT® Silver and ENERGY STAR™ certification).

The MFPs supplement printing with copying, scanning and faxing, and include advanced features such as ID card copy, G3 faxing, LAN faxing, color scanning and the ability to create TIFF, JPG and PDF files. The SP 3610SF includes single-pass two-sided scanning for enhanced speed and productivity.

“Our customers told us they wanted compact, affordable alternatives to A3 devices without sacrificing all the capabilities they’ve come to expect from departmental devices,” said John Brophy, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “We delivered, putting Ricoh’s award-winning technology into our expanding line of mid-volume A4 devices.”

Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $355 for the RICOH SP 3600DN printer. MSRP for the SP 3600SF is $540, and MSRP for the SP 3610SF is $605.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today introduced AFP2PDF Plus, a new addition to the Ricoh Web Enablement solutions suite that enables customers to transform powerful Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) data streams into Web-ready electronic PDF documents. In today’s new world of work, AFP2PDF Plus helps customers stay competitive by embracing electronic presentment as an additional method for reaching audiences, addressing them in a popular, cost-effective and easy-to-use format that encourages engagement and facilitates placing well indexed documents within workflows and records management systems.

With AFP2PDF Plus, the transform process is swift and accurate, producing electronic output with the same fidelity and precision that AFP has come to signify. The solution provides significant performance advances over the previous version of AFP2PDF, with performance tests showing improvement in pages transformed per second by up to four times. AFP2PDF Plus ensures that customers can quickly and easily provide attractive, effective electronic presentment options for the communications they – and their customers – deliver.”

Patients expect their hospital experience to involve nothing less than the latest technology. That’s why the idea of too much paperwork scares them off, sometimes to the point of choosing the Internet for help with medical conditions.

These are among the findings of an online survey conducted by Harris Poll of more than 2,000 adults in the United States on behalf of Ricoh Americas Corporation. The focus was information mobility in American hospitals, the ability to efficiently move information among clinical and administrative workers regardless of whether it’s paper-based or digital.

Many U.S. adults say:
• Hospitals are drowning in paperwork, which cuts into the time healthcare workers are able to spend with patients (77 percent said this).
• Hospital patients feel more connected to healthcare providers who don’t spend a lot of time on paperwork during visits (79 percent).
• They would rather search treatments on the Internet for non-life threatening medical issues than deal with hospital paperwork to see a healthcare professional (60 percent).
• Hospitals that use tablets or other mobile devices to collect information from patients are more efficient than those that don’t (74 percent).

“Everyone knows that paperwork can be inefficient and that electronic health records are a major goal of healthcare technology initiatives,” said Ron Nielson, Vice President, Ricoh Healthcare, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “But this survey goes further, revealing that patients react viscerally to the red tape they encounter in hospitals. We need to do better now, and we can.”

The same research documented the benefits of reducing paperwork and digitizing hospital workflows.
• Nearly 9 in 10 (85 percent) respondents said they would feel more comfortable about a hospital’s quality of care knowing it is using the latest technology.
• More than 9 in 10 U.S. adults (92 percent) support hospitals spending money on technology to allow healthcare workers to spend more time with patients.
• More than 8 in 10 said that with the increased use of information management technology, hospital visits are more efficient (85 percent) and hospital admission and discharge processes go much faster (83 percent).

There’s even an emotional dimension to the use of newer technology in hospitals: More than half (54 percent) say patients are less anxious during hospital visits when healthcare providers use tablets or other mobile devices to collect information.

“For whatever reason, hospitals seem to lag behind other business segments in the ability of clinicians and staff to access the information they need when they need it,” continued Nielson. “Ricoh has studied the problem in depth and has developed powerful solutions to address common healthcare information needs, such as electronic health records, patient chart scanning, health information management workflow, patient ID wristbands, secure plain-paper prescription printing, and more. All of these are designed to help address healthcare’s needs for privacy, security, cost-effectiveness and a seamless patient experience.”

About Information Mobility
Information mobility includes the ability to transform hospital information – and to repurpose it or search for it – in any format. The goal is to have access to the relevant data one needs anytime, anywhere.

Methodology
This survey was conducted online within the United States between February 18-20, 2015 among 2,053 adults aged 18 and over (among which 960 have been an outpatient and/or inpatient in a hospital in the past five years) by Harris Poll on behalf of Ricoh via its QuickQuery omnibus product. Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced that it has signed an agreement with Mimaki USA to distribute Mimaki JFX200-2513 and Mimaki JFX500-2131 high-performance flatbed inkjet printers. These models, designed for high quality and larger output printing, are now available for purchase through Ricoh sales channels. With this reseller agreement, Ricoh continues to expand its hardware and software offerings for graphic communications providers interested in growing or creating a wide-format printing business. Attendees of ISA International Sign Expo 2015 can visit the Ricoh booth #805 to see the JFX200-2513 model in action. Mimaki JFX200-2513 and JFX500-2131 printers are designed to address a variety of wide-format needs including applications such as interior décor, indoor display panels and outdoor signs; and are able to print on glass, metal and much more.

“Ricoh is an industry leader in digital production print, with a talented and vast group of specialists who know the market and help their customers grow their business,” said Ken VanHorn, Director, Marketing and Business Development, Mimaki USA. “At Mimaki, we pride ourselves on delivering solutions that help customers achieve their desired results affordably and effectively. Teaming with Ricoh will help us do just that, more broadly and more quickly.”

Mimaki JFX200-2513 and JFX500-2131 models are valuable additions to any printer’s repertoire, especially those venturing into wide-format printing for the first time and looking to expand their specialty graphics applications. The Mimaki wide-format flatbed printers provide high quality color and larger output at an affordable price. As the demand for wide-format printers has increased, Ricoh has worked to offer its customers printers appropriate for their changing needs and the evolving application trends.

“With the new Mimaki flatbed wide format printer that we purchased through Ricoh, we are now able to print on basically any type of substrate and on materials up to almost 2 inches thick. Bottom line: the applications are endless. It really is an on-demand type of product,” said Vince Lepera, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Pacful, Inc. “We printed a photo stock setting of ‘Route 66’ on double doors in our office using the Mimaki JFX200-2513, and when we have clients come in, it has an immediate wow factor.”

Both the JFX200-2513 and JFX500-2131 models use abrasion-resistant UV inks that are durable in both indoor and outdoor conditions. They are capable of handling substrates up to 1.97 inches thick, and 4.2 x 8.2 feet in size for the JFX200-2513 model and 6.9 x 10 feet for the JFX500-2131 model. The devices are easily operated from a one-stop control point located on the front of the device. Mimaki wide-format flatbed printers feature a long-life, energy-saving UV-LED curing unit that can help printers avoid time- and energy-cost sinks typically caused by longer warm-up and cool-down periods.

“Our customers are used to best-in-class digital production print solutions from Ricoh, and the addition of the Mimaki wide-format flatbed printers will further enable our clients to expand into the wide-format flatbed business at an affordable price point,” said John Fulena, Vice President, Production Print Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “These devices’ unique ability to prevent and correct common errors that affect wide-format print jobs fit perfectly into our customers’ demands for efficiency and quality. Mimaki’s ongoing efforts to create equipment with minimal downtime, footprint and energy cost are initiatives Ricoh is proud to support.”

At the ISA International Sign Expo 2015, Ricoh will highlight key features of the JFX200-2513 flatbed printer, including:
• Two-layer print function – capable of printing separate layers of both white and CYMK color allows for faster printing on clear and transparent substrates.
• Vacuum table unit – easily controlled with ON/OFF switches located in the front area of the printer. The two toggle switches separately control each of the two vacuum partitions that facilitate secure and accurate media positioning.
• Bulk ink supply system – with Mimaki’s newly developed ink supply system, 1-liter bottles of UV ink are easily and quickly inserted and removed from the front of the printer. The system accommodates up to eight bottles of ink for CMYKx2 or CMYK+W+C and UV Primer ink.
• Direct to media/substrate printing – able to handle all types of media and substrates including acrylics, foam board, corrugated plastics, metal – almost any media up to 1.9” thick.
• Low power, long life UV-LED curing lamps – ideal for printing on media that is vulnerable to thermal deformation or color change due to the lamps’ reduced heat output.

Ricoh today deepened its relationship with the Miami Marlins, becoming the Major League Baseball franchise’s Official Document Solutions Partner. The new partnership builds on a three-year relationship in which Ricoh has helped this dynamic organization improve its accounts payable workflows and ultimately achieve increasing levels of information mobility.

Ricoh also announced it has become the title sponsor for the most exclusive seating, lounge, and business conference space in Marlins Park. Now called the Ricoh Diamond Club, the elegant setting located just behind home plate will host season ticket owners and VIP guests for dining, hospitality, baseball and business meetings. More than 100,000 people enter the park through the Diamond Club entrance every year.

As part of the agreement, Ricoh will equip the Diamond Club’s exclusive conference room, now known as the Ricoh Business Center, with the RICOH PJ WX4141NI Ultra Short Throw Projector and other powerful business technology to improve collaboration and information sharing. Use of the Ricoh Business Center will be a new 2015 feature offered to Ricoh Diamond Club season ticket holders and Marlins’ partners.

Ricoh Diamond Club guests will be able to do business before, after or between games at the club. The Ricoh Diamond Club will also be a forum for learning how Ricoh can help companies improve workflow and ensure those who need information are easily able to access it at any time and from anywhere to make critical business decisions. The partnership is effective for the next five years.

“Although baseball is timeless, running a ball club and a stadium today is very much a modern-day information challenge,” said Brendan Cunningham, Senior Vice President, Corporate Partnerships for the Marlins. “Fortunately, Ricoh has been a driving force in helping us work more intelligently. They have a unique vision for putting information directly into the hands of the people who need it, and the ability to execute quickly on that vision. We know, because we put them under a tight deadline when we moved from Sun Life Stadium into our new home. They delivered.”
Behind the scenes
The move to Marlins Park in 2012 brought with it a tripling of the organization’s document workload. As a result, the Marlins sought to reduce paper and increase information accessibility. The team’s paper-based accounts payable system, for example, was a huge drain on time and labor. Faxing of critical documents, including player contracts, needed to be simple and more reliable. And staffers needed the right combination of shared multifunction products (MFPs) and personal printers.

Ricoh helped the Marlins streamline its accounts payable workflows with a new system enabling staffers to simply email invoices to a designated address. The system sorts and routes each one to the proper recipient. New centralized fax capabilities enabled 250 workers to send and receive faxes just as they do email. And Ricoh began managing 50 MFPs and printers, using special software to monitor output, reduce costs and keep supplies topped off.

“We’ve been impressed with the Marlins organization’s focus on delivering an exciting entertainment experience,” said Tim Vellek, Senior Vice President, Marketing for Ricoh Americas Corporation. “As the natural next step, we’ve worked together to provide the Ricoh Diamond Club and Business Center, which offer a forum for businesses to meet, collaborate and see how they can benefit from improved information workflow – just as we’ve done for the Marlins.”

They employ Ricoh’s new LED imaging technology, which enables 1200-x-1200-dpi resolution printing without compromising rated speed. They also support new workstyles such as mobile printing, and offer an aggressively low cost-per-page.

“These new devices are specifically designed to support Ricoh’s dealers as they help customers achieve higher information mobility,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Our dealers have specifically requested enhanced capabilities in the important 40 ppm segment of the A4 market to help their customers succeed in this new world of work. These devices answer the call.”

For example, dealers have requested faster speeds within smaller footprints, and separate toner cartridges and drums to extend the life of supplies and reduce cost per page. To help customers with mixed fleets shorten their learning curves, the new devices feature a 4.3-inch color touch panel that provides the same user experience found in Ricoh’s A3 line (A3 refers to machines capable of printing documents of up to 13.5 x 17 inches).

Advanced paper handling, mobility and energy efficiency
The RICOH MP 401SPF and RICOH SP 4520DN support standard and legal-size paper with a thickness of up to 90lb. Index and 43lb. Bond from every paper tray. Standard integrated duplexing helps keep the devices compact.

To enable seamless mobile printing with these devices, workers can download the RICOH Smart Device Print&Scan app to their smartphones and laptops. An optional connection to Ricoh’s Integrated Cloud Environment service equips the RICOH MP 401SPF MFP to leverage popular cloud-based services for document storage via the touch panel.

For example, users can print from or scan directly to cloud-based services, such as DocumentMall®, Evernote®, Dropbox or Google Drive™ without expensive on-site servers, system integration or software updates. The RICOH MP 401SPF MFP also includes optional embedded optical character recognition, which can convert scanned documents into searchable PDFs.

The RICOH MP 401SPF and RICOH SP 4520DN support sustainable business practices with ENERGY STAR 2.0 compliance and, in the case of the RICOH SP 4520DN, an ECO Night Sensor feature that powers the device down when departing employees turn the lights off.

Both devices help to protect important information with the DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS), which destroys latent data stored on the hard disk drive by writing over the latent image after printing, as well as encryption of the optional hard disk drive. They also offer optional proximity card authentication to release documents to their proper owner.

The RICOH MP 401SPF and RICOH SP 4520DN are easy to manage as part of a fleet using RICOH Device Manager NX Lite or @Remote device management software. Both devices are built on the same advanced controller architecture as Ricoh’s award-winning A3 product line, which ensures Ricoh’s suite of distributed scanning, device management and assessment, and cost recovery software offerings are supported on these more compact workgroup devices.

The new devices are available exclusively through Ricoh’s dealer and direct channels. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the RICOH MP 401SPF MFP is $3,310. The MSRP for the RICOH SP 4520DN printer is $1,025.

Ricoh today unveiled three new black and white multifunction products (MFPs) for small offices and workgroups whose employees are determined to improve their information mobility in this new world of work.

In addition to streamlining 11” x 17” printing, scanning, copying and optional faxing, the new
RICOH MP 4054/MP 5054/MP 6054 Series enables easy document printing from mobile devices, cloud-based document management, and promotes cost reduction through energy efficiency.

The new MFPs, which print at 40, 50 and 60 pages per minute respectively, offer up to 1,200 dpi in a space-saving eco-friendly design. A standard 220-sheet Single Pass Document Feeder (SPDF) scans up to 180 color or black-and-white images per minute from paper documents, optionally creating text-searchable PDF files through optical character recognition (OCR).

“MFPs are an integral part of the enterprise, and these devices are in the forefront,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “These MFPs are designed to help organizations achieve new levels of information mobility by placing important business information in the right workers’ hands at the right time while accommodating their evolving workstyles.”

A classic example of evolving workstyles is mobile computing. The RICOH MP 4054/MP 5054/MP 6054 Series enables workers to use the new Ricoh Smart Device Connector app (available for iOS or Android) to copy, print, scan and fax directly from their smart device. They simply touch their smart device to the NFC tag on the MFPs’ optional Smart Operation Panel or scan the QR Code to automatically connect to the MFPs to access these functions.

The MFPs’ optional Smart Operation Panel offers users a tablet-like drag-and-drop, pinch-flick-and-swipe navigation experience on a 10.1-inch Super VGA display. The interface includes an advanced Web browser enabling connection to Ricoh’s Integrated Cloud Environment (ICE).

The series’ energy-efficient engineering softens its environmental impact, earning the platform ENERGY STAR and EPEAT Gold certification. The optional Smart Operation Panel includes an eco-friendly indicator to warn of excessive paper usage. A range of authentication options, including card authentication and PIN code, help ensure information gets to the right people. The new MFPs include a wide variety of finishing options, including a 500-sheet internal finisher for the MP 4054 and MP 5054.

The RICOH MP 4054 and RICOH MP 5054 replace the RICOH MP 4002 and RICOH MP 5002 Series. The RICOH MP 6054 is a net-new 60 pages-per-minute model.

The MFPs are available now at an MSRP of $12,250 for the RICOH MP 4054, $14,725 for the RICOH MP 5054, and $18,925 for the RICOH MP 6054.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced the availability of the RICOH Pro C7100X series, its latest production cutsheet device family that offers users a fifth color station to help enable a wider range of applications. Announced at GRAPH EXPO ’14, these high-speed, production color printers and multi-function devices (MFPs) deliver the ability to print with white or clear via the fifth station. The RICOH Pro C7110X will be on display in the Ricoh booth, # 644, at the Graphics of the Americas show in Miami, February 26 – 28, 2015.

Ideal for small and mid-sized printers, the RICOH Pro C7100X series, provides these shops with the flexibility and capabilities to create the type of eye catching output their customers want without the expensive price tag normally associated with printing equipment in this engine class. With the ability to produce jobs that use clear or white ink, to producing near offset image quality on oversized media, window clings, VDP, POP displays and custom materials, printers can now create output that differentiates them from the competition.

“Since we implemented the RICOH Pro C7110X six months ago, we have delivered an even wider range of unique applications to our customers and seen a cost savings of 25 percent. These benefits have allowed us to expand our offerings and natively produce previously outsourced jobs,” said Nathanial Grant, President of GAM Graphics and Marketing, a full service marketing firm that offers comprehensive printing and fulfillment services. “From printing on dark stock to linen, both we and our customers have been more than impressed with the level of quality and output this digital system offers.”

Utilizing fifth-station colors, the RICOH Pro C7100X prints at speeds of up to 80ppm and the RICOH Pro C7110X at speeds of up to 90 ppm, both based upon A4. They have a maximum sheet size of 13x19.2 and a maximum monthly volume of 240,000 based on letter size. Printing at 1200x4800dpi with VCSEL image quality on a wide variety of media ranging from tree-based paper to synthetics and envelopes, the RICOH Pro C7100X series supports paper weights of up to 360gsm in both simplex and duplex. In addition, printers can further expand their offerings and control quality with inline finishing solutions that allow for a variety of options including Booklet Maker, Punching, Saddle Stitch, and more.

“Cost, not creativity or expertise, has truly been the only factor limiting many small and mid-sized shops from expanding their application portfolios,” said John Fulena, Vice President, Production Print Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Seeing so many of our customers facing this obstacle, we knew we had to work with them to create a more cost-effective, versatile route to delivering the highest quality output. Now, our small and mid-size printers can spread their capabilities into new markets, shorten their print runs and maintain the type of quality their customers demand, all at a cost that will keep them within budget.”

The RICOH Pro C7100X series also:
• Features an AC-transfer system and elastic fusing belt technology to enhance output on a variety of heavily textured media such as vellum and linen;
• Utilizes Ricoh’s new vacuum feed LCT with an option to enable oversized prints of up to 27.5 inches in length;
•Provides the ability to produce jobs that use clear or white ink;
• Achieves tight sheet-to-sheet registration  through a mechanical registration system which squares the sheet prior to imaging and can easily be adjusted from the user interface;
• Incorporates a fusing belt smoothing roller that helps address fuser burn on the fusing belt;
• Offers a media library that allows users to adjust and associate different parameters per substrate to help ensure IQ and reliability;
• Comes backed by Ricoh’s TCRU program (Trained Customer Replaceable Units) which enables customers to replace more than a dozen parts for increased uptime;
• Includes a self-contained liquid cooling system that keeps the developer at a constant temperature and minimizes disruptions in extended production runs;
• Offers a complete suite of optional finishing solutions that result in collated, finished documents ready for distribution with no manual intervention. This includes in-line ring bind, perfect bind, as well as new Plockmatic Bookletmakers and GBC StreamPunch Ultra.

To see the RICOH Pro C7110X system at Graphic of Americas, please stop by booth #644 or email Tracey Sheehy at tsheehy@breakawaycom.com to schedule a demo.

Feb 24 - RICOH STRENGTHENS ITS PRESENCE IN MIDDLE EAST
Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled new solutions to help companies improve their business performance by cost-effectively managing large fleets of printers, copiers and multifunction products (MFPs). Adding to an already robust portfolio of solutions currently available through Ricoh and its market-leading partners, RICOH Device Manager NX Pro and RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise address unique customer pain points by optimizing the performance of large device fleet deployments. These new solutions help customers achieve information mobility – the ability to access the right information when and where it is needed – to make critical business decisions.

RICOH Device Manager NX Pro and RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise automate the tracking, performance analysis and configuration of fleets across multiple offices and geographies while also supporting environmental sustainability initiatives by reporting on items such as paper and power consumption.

These two new, comprehensive fleet management solutions combine multifaceted management of Ricoh and non-Ricoh devices in a single software footprint. Continuous uptime and optimized performance of these information platforms is critical in achieving information mobility in the new world of work.

“It’s tremendously challenging to manage large numbers of MFPs across a company or continents,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Now our customers can have clear, deep and detailed control of their fleets, regardless of size, location or device brand. From a PC, laptop, tablet or even a smartphone, they can easily gauge their return on investment and allocate resources more strategically. This is one more way Ricoh is making information work for our clients.”

Cost reduction, labor savings and user empowerment
RICOH Device Manager NX Pro and RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise are entirely new software solutions coded from the ground up to integrate with the features and capabilities of Ricoh’s next-generation MFP platform and its advanced capabilities, such as DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) and Ricoh HDD encryption. Additionally, the solutions probe deeper into non-Ricoh devices, including USB-connected printers found within the customer’s enterprise. By surfacing real-time device data and automating batch configuration for Ricoh devices, the solutions help companies lower their device costs, reduce their IT effort, and empower their users.

RICOH Device Manager NX Pro and RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise provide real-time device data and automated alerts to administrators to help optimize their fleets, reduce downtime and enhance user experience. Not only do these solutions enable the configuration and cloning of devices, an audit function helps ensure devices are configured to company standards.

In a significant advance in Ricoh’s device management capabilities, the solutions include a new Web-based interface that simultaneously exposes both broad and highly specific device performance information in a single dashboard view, minimizing the need to drill down and back up through multiple levels of information. The dashboard leverages the ability of a company’s intranet to mobilize information from print capable devices to the RICOH Device Manager NX Pro and RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise server.

The solutions include a new ability to clone the settings of an ideally configured device and automatically replicate that configuration among selected other MFPs. Improved graphical floor map capability now enable administrators to position devices onto floor maps by simply dragging and dropping MFPs into predefined groups.

Extending device management to partners
Customers who wish to hand off fleet management to Ricoh as part of a Managed Document Services initiative can use the new @Remote Connector NX application. The solution works with RICOH Device Manager NX Pro and RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise to enable in-depth device performance analysis, produce green reports (e.g., paper and energy consumption), automate the meter reading process, as well as alert the service provider of any service and supply needs. The solution also enables secure and remote updating of MFP firmware.

To further streamline fleet management, organizations can empower employees to quickly connect to new printers and MFPs without IT help through the use of the new RICOH Printer Driver Packager NX and Advanced Driver Distribution applications. Administrators can quickly and economically configure the printer drivers these employees use, adding user-friendly icons, modifying values, locking settings and enforcing economical duplex printing, for example. The solution also helps eliminate the need for expensive print servers.

RICOH Device Manager NX Pro supports up to 5,000 devices. RICOH Device Manager NX Enterprise offers virtually unlimited scalability. For further mobility, a RICOH Device Manager NX smartphone/tablet app is available for iOS and Android.

Ricoh Americas Corporation is helping its dealers compete more effectively with valuable business process improvement capabilities via Ricoh’s CHAMPS dealer services program.

In addition to promoting office equipment, Ricoh, Savin and Lanier dealers can now sell a broad array of Ricoh services, adding powerful capabilities to their portfolios without the time investment and infrastructure costs of creating new services capabilities from scratch.

“We hear various success stories from our dealers, not only about how Ricoh is helping to grow their businesses and expand their portfolio of offerings, but about how our strong partnerships are helping them increase efficiencies, improve productivity and ultimately run healthier businesses,” said Jim Coriddi, Vice President, Dealer Division, Ricoh U.S.A. “These success stories demonstrate how our dealers are working hard each day to make information work for customers.”

Previewed here are two examples of recent CHAMPS success stories. Ricoh will share several others like these with dealers at its upcoming national dealer conference in Las Vegas, March 2-5.

American Business Center, a Ricoh dealer for more than 17 years, is helping the City of Warren’s Engineering and Planning Department increase efficiency and improve productivity by making hard copy documents more easily accessible at a faster rate. As a government entity the department has had to work with limited resources while making their ledgers and records (still in hardcopy format) available to interested constituents on a daily basis. American Business Center turned to Ricoh for assistance in meeting this customer’s unique needs. Ricoh designed a solution that enables interested parties the ability to scan and print their required materials creating a revenue generating opportunity for the department. This customer self-service process has also helped the City of Warren’s Engineering and Planning Department employees focus on more strategic activities.

American Business Center has also engaged Ricoh Digital Imaging Services resources via the CHAMPS program to work closely with customer Lane Funeral Homes to provide a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategy for thousands of documents. Some of these documents date back as far as the 1800s and are housed in a storage facility which is becoming too small as the company grows. Lane Funeral Homes needed an easier way to obtain old records, some of which are subject to regulations by the State of Ohio, as well as pre-planned arrangements that have been stored and need to be accessed immediately in the event of a death. In addition, the company required a disaster recovery system should the documents be lost. The backup and disaster recovery system American Business Center engaged Ricoh to put in place has helped Lane Funeral Homes more easily access these documents to meet regulatory and filing requirements, thus avoiding possible costly fines and legal action. The automation is also helping families more quickly access and carry out their loved ones pre-planning requests.

“Having the ability to fulfill all of a customer’s information management needs is vitally important not only for our success but for our customer’s success as well,” said Robert Wagner, President, American Business Center. “The CHAMPS program gives us access to Ricoh services experts, which has helped our business evolve and grow and we’ve become a trusted provider as well as a one-stop shop for ultimately helping customers capture, transform and manage information more effectively in today’s new world of work.”

Ricoh’s CHAMPS program is an innovative approach that enables dealers to successfully redesign their business models and gain the proper knowhow and Ricoh expertise to offer advanced services that deliver information mobility and ultimately help customers capture, transform and manage information more effectively in today’s new world of work.

The program qualifies dealers to analyze customer business challenges and prescribe custom services drawing from Ricoh’s Business Information Solutions expertise.

The CHAMPS certification program confirms that a dealer has successfully completed all Ricoh Services certification requirements for a particular specialized service or solution offering. CHAMPS certification programs are available through the Ricoh Learning Institute and directly through the services organizations. A total of 220 dealers have been certified since the certification program began in February 2012.

“We at Ricoh are committed to being the number one printing equipment and services provider in the country for our dealers,” said Coriddi. “To achieve this, we’re giving our dealers low-risk opportunities to shift their business models, enter new markets and strengthen their valuable customer relationships.”

We are very pleased that Allegra has chosen this solution and look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Award-winning Avanti Slingshot, launched in 2013, is browser-based, providing franchise members with the flexibility to access the system at any time and from anywhere. Avanti Slingshot scales as the business grows; additional modules can easily be added as the franchise member potentially expands into new lines of business, such as large format.

“Avanti Slingshot is a fantastic tool to help cultivate a more meaningful customer relationship, helping our clients remain competitive in the ever-changing print market landscape,” said Patrick Bolan, President and CEO of Avanti. “This is the beginning of a long-term relationship between Ricoh, Avanti and Allegra Networks and we look forward to helping contribute to their continued growth and global expansion.”

Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled a new offering that, when combined with select Ricoh multifunction products (MFPs), creates a Legal MFP that delivers improved end-user workflows while also enhancing operational efficiencies and helping to lower overall costs. Law firms seeking to reduce redundancies related to cost recovery will benefit from the single, integrated user interface, which helps minimize steps in the process and integrates access to third-party document management systems. Ricoh will preview its Legal MFP at LegalTech, February 3-5, 2015, in New York City in Ricoh’s booth, #231.

With the largest network of document processing centers in the U.S., Ricoh’s certified personnel have hands-on experience with the processing of legal documents. This expertise, and investments in innovative technology offerings, has led to the development of the Legal MFP. With this MFP software solution, law firms will:

• Reduce unneeded steps involved in the scanning process. Today, using disjointed systems can be tedious and take up precious minutes that could otherwise be dedicated to another matter. With Ricoh’s Legal MFP, redundancies in steps are reduced and the overall scanning experience is more streamlined.

• Scan to legal Document Management Systems including iManage, WorldDox, and OpenText. This approach streamlines previously disjointed processes to minimize the number of steps by end-users and eliminates data entry redundancy, e.g. log-in credentials, client matter numbers, etc.

• Automatically split files to court-specified file size limits and convert them to the appropriate file format.

“Our team of certified legal experts spends many hours with clients truly getting to the bottom of their pain points. These conversations have made it clear that law firms are seeking improvement in two main areas of document output: lowered spend on cost recovery systems and centralization of third-party systems,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Knowing this, Ricoh has made strategic investments in both our people and technologies to help our clients see these improvements. The Legal MFP is a perfect example of a solution developed to meet our clients’ needs – enabling them to streamline workflows and lower overall output costs.”

For a demonstration of Ricoh’s Legal MFP, please visit the Ricoh booth (#231) at LegalTech or reach out to Tracey Sheehy at tsheehy@breakawaycom.com to schedule a meeting at the show.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced that it has achieved kCura’s Orange-level Relativity Best in Service recognition for outstanding and exceptional customer service for Relativity end users.

Ricoh’s legal review solutions provide attorneys with a robust cloud environment, allowing them to benefit from technological advances in document review instantly. The Ricoh team understands the immediate needs of the legal industry and continues to make strategic investments in its personnel and infrastructure to help meet those needs. And as such, the company’s consultative approach, led by its team of Relativity certified professionals, has assisted legal organizations by customizing matter-specific solutions with best-in-class technology and processes that have helped lead to controlled costs and gained efficiencies.

“At Ricoh, we know that attorneys are seeking more effective review strategies. This is why our portfolio includes solutions to help improve attorney workflows by enabling them to quickly browse, search, annotate, and share the latest versions of important case documents efficiently, utilizing a combination of advanced technology solutions and tenured industry-leading personnel,” said David Greetham, Vice President, eDiscovery Operations, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “This recognition from kCura is exciting for us as we continue to make strategic investments to advance our team and our resources - with the ultimate goal of providing our clients with expert guidance to craft the right strategy to help bolster their success rate.”

Through a voluntary audit, Best in Service partners demonstrate their expertise and experience hosting projects in Relativity. kCura evaluates these partners’ individual data centers in three areas: technical infrastructure, customer service, and product expertise. Additionally, Best in Service partners meet a set of requirements for duration as a hosting partner, size of Relativity installations, and core Relativity certifications.

kCura has two designations for Best in Service partners’ data centers: Orange and Blue. While both designate data centers that meet the same basic qualifications, Orange-level sites are recognized for making additional investments in people, process, and technology to manage installations with above-average user counts.

“We’ve enjoyed working with Ricoh ever since they became a hosting partner in 2011,” said Andrew Sieja, president and CEO of kCura. “Their determination to successfully earn the Orange-level Best in Service designation demonstrates their commitment to providing an exceptional Relativity experience every step of the way.”

At LegalTech, Ricoh will have a private suite at the New York Hilton Midtown where it will be showing customers how to leverage Relativity and other technologies and services to facilitate workflow efficiencies. Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled RICOH NV-10A digital binoculars, which for the first time can penetrate fog, smoke, rain and sand to provide a crisp, clear image even at night.

The RICOH NV-10A enhanced binoculars enable marine, military, rescue, firefighting, law enforcement, homeland security and other professional users to push a button on the binoculars and clarify, brighten and sharpen images. This same technology enhances the view for consumer applications such as boating, birding and wildlife viewing. The PENTAX Atmospheric Interference Reduction (PAIR) technology reintroduces color that would otherwise be obscured.

The RICOH NV-10A digital binoculars enable users to capture both still and video images of the scenes they’re surveying. Advanced stabilization further improves image clarity, and infrared technology lights up the faintest scenes in the dark of night.

“This is a serious tool for the serious user,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Imagine you’re on a merchant ship and see another vessel cruising into your vicinity. Is it friend or foe? How many crew members do you see on deck? What are they doing? You need to know before your options begin to dwindle.”

Combining advanced PENTAX optics and Ricoh image processing, RICOH NV-10A enhanced binoculars are water resistant and dustproof and include GPS location – especially useful for charting incidents on the water – as well as a digital compass.

By providing large, well-spaced buttons, Ricoh has made the binoculars easy to use while wearing gloves. Non-slip rubber surfaces provide a sure grip and subdued colors help the user remain discreet.

Availability
The RICOH NV-10A enhanced binoculars, also available through Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation, are available now at a retail price of $4,195.

Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled a breakthrough in machine vision with new digital video cameras that provide up to five times* the depth of field of traditional industrial cameras while maintaining brightness.

That means a single RICOH Extended Depth of Field Camera (EDoF) can capture images it typically would take multiple cameras to achieve – subjects in the foreground and background stay in focus without constant movement, refocusing, or shooting multiple images from different heights and depths. Ricoh has extended depth of field by using a specialized lens and a specialized camera with a built-in image processor and a new algorithm.

The innovative RICOH EDoF camera can clearly detect varying subjects in sharp focus – from tiny text to entire assemblies – as products of different sizes and heights glide by on an assembly line at varying distances from the camera. And with the RICOH EDoF camera, the depth of field is extended while maintaining image brightness. With a typical camera, extending depth of field often makes the image darker.

The RICOH EDoF camera is ideal for bottlers, printed circuit board makers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, shippers – any company that needs to inspect product and automatically alert managers to aberrations. The cameras are also ideal in certain low-light situations, such as gem inspections where glare can be a problem. The open aperture required for a dim room would constrict depth of field in a traditional camera.

“With this camera, you’ll rarely need to adjust the focus of your industrial camera,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Just about everyone has assumed that depth of field – the range of in-focus distance in front of a lens – is as inviolable as the law of gravity. But our R&D teams discovered that, astonishingly, depth of field can actually be multiplied. Customers can save money, configuration time and the cost of complexity.”

MSRP for the VGA monochrome RICOH Extended Depth of Field Camera (EV-G030B1) is $3,707.50; the 2M monochrome model (EV-G200B1) is $4,427.50; and the 2M color model (EV-G200C1) is $4,535.50. Frame rate ranges from 15 to 90 frames per second, and aperture from f/1.7 to f/8.6, depending on the model. The cameras are available with a choice of wide angle (8 mm), standard (12 mm) and telephoto (35 mm) lenses sold separately.

For details on Ricoh’s full line of products, services and solutions, please visit www.ricoh-usa.com.

*The extended depth of field effect varies depending on the subject pattern.
