The social networking Web site – www.globalscannx.com – is designed to provide Ricoh GlobalScan NX users the opportunity to share and distribute custom business process templates and communicate best practices with other departments in their organization as well as other companies around the world.

All submitted templates receive attribution. Understanding that best practices in document development are an important part of business process management, Ricoh’s GlobalScan NX community also offers a forum for users to exchange ideas and tips for workflow design.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, announced that the Ricoh Electronics, Inc. headquarters in Tustin, Calif. is in the process of installing a rooftop solar energy system, which when completed in 2011, will supply 10 percent (approximately 350,000 kWH) of the headquarters building’s electricity. The system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 98.1 metric tons/year(1) and will provide Ricoh Electronics, Inc. with annual electricity cost savings of more than $56,000.

Ricoh has been steadfastly committed to the environment for over 30 years. In 1976, Ricoh established the Environmental Protection Group responsible for keeping Ricoh’s environmental goals and strategies as key considerations when planning, developing, designing and promoting new products and services. In 2003, Ricoh introduced its first “Eco-Board” in Osaka, Japan, a billboard powered solely by renewable energy. A billboard powered 100% by the sun debuted in New York City’s Times Square early 2010. Ricoh also set medium and long-term targets in 2009, to reduce the total CO2 emissions to 30% by fiscal year 2020 and 87.5% by fiscal year 2050, as compared to fiscal year 2000.
Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s solar-powered facility is another example of Ricoh’s continued dedication to the environment. Ricoh’s Atsugi and Numazu facilities in Japan currently have solar power systems installed, but the Tustin facility will be the first outside of Japan.

“Installation of this system is a natural extension of Ricoh’s continued focus on developing and implementing environmental protection activities that lead to prevention of pollution and more efficient use of resources,” said Yoshinori Yamashita, President, Ricoh Electronics, Inc.

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. engaged SPG Solar Inc., a leader in the development, design and installation of high-performance solar energy systems, to manage the project. SPG Solar will be installing nearly 1,000 cutting-edge, silicone crystal solar panels to create the solar energy system on Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s existing headquarters building. The system takes advantage of Ricoh Electronics, Inc.’s location in sunny Southern California. Ricoh Electronics, Inc. offset approximately 60 percent of the solar system’s cost by incentives offered by the federal and state government, and expects to recoup its costs for the project in 5.5 years.

“It is commendable that Ricoh Electronics, Inc. has continued their commitment to building such a sizable system,” said Tom Rooney, CEO & President of SPG Solar. “At SPG Solar, we rarely come across a client that is willing to take so many steps to show such a serious commitment to sustainability. That Ricoh Electronics, Inc. has done so is very impressive.”

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. achieved zero waste to landfill status in 2001, and all its operations have maintained certification to ISO 14001 since 1999. In addition, Ricoh Electronics, Inc. employees are actively engaged in sustainability initiatives, including submitting 1,360 improvement suggestions in FY 2009, which resulted in over $2 million in savings.

Ricoh Electronics, Inc. will host a grand opening ceremony upon completion of the solar system installation in early 2011. The ceremony will include the unveiling of a display in the headquarters buildingNov 9 - RICOH ELECTRONICS, INC. October 2010

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the release of its newest solution-enabled (SE) digital camera, the G700SE. The ruggedized, water and dust proof camera is an improvement on the G500SE, continuing in the tradition of Ricoh SE products.

Complete with wireless data communication capabilities (Wi-Fi) and Bluetooth®, the G700SE uses Global Positioning System (GPS) functions and laser barcode readers. The camera also features a Scandisk card (SD-1), which provides a higher level of security with password-enabled access. By sliding the card into the camera, a user can only read information by entering the correct password.

Among the improvements found in the G700SE is a more robust and advanced GPS option, with an increased accuracy from six to three meters. This provides more reliable position and direction information. The camera has the ability to migrate information online to various mapping applications such as Google Maps, Google Earth and ESRI’s ArcGIS solutions, which in turn can aid in pinpointing location with satellite imagery that is useful in forestry, geological studies and wildlife preserves, to name a few applications.

“The G700SE is the present and future of solution-enabled cameras and will be our flagship model,” said Yuki Uchida, Vice President of New Business Development. “We have already received interest from healthcare organizations and law enforcement communities to use the G700SE, and we are thrilled to be a part of this cutting edge technology”

The laser barcode reader unit makes it is possible to do rapid recognition of linear barcodes. This capability makes the G700SE a powerful tool for a wide range of operations, including facility maintenance of electric, gas, and water utilities. Ricoh owns the unique memo patent that allows users to collect memo data while taking images from the G700SE, along with a time, date and location stamp, which can be transferred wirelessly or directly among departments within an organization. The barcode option is especially useful in data management, such as warehouse logistics, where damaged items can be documented for insurance purposes, utilizing images and onboard memo data.

The previous 500SE version has been used by various industries in the public and private sectors. One example of the SE camera capabilities is the GEO tagged photos that facilitated efforts related to the recent oil clean-up in the Gulf of Mexico. The camera’s GPS option helped to expedite the deployment process by providing exact GEO location data along with critical time stamp information and embedded images taken on land or in the air.

The G700SE offers 12 megapixels resolution, with a 5x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. The flash has a maximum range of 10 m and it has a 28 to 140 mm wide-angle zoom lens. It has a compact body size of 118.8 mm (W) x 71.0 mm (H) x 41.0 nm (D) and weighs about 286 g.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, announced that AIM Mail Centers, a national retail chain of franchised business solution centers, will upgrade the technology at its stores nationwide to Ricoh HotSpot Multifunction Printers (MFPs). Ricoh HotSpot MFPs offer mobile users the added convenience of printing remotely and enable users to print securely across the Internet, without the need for a device-specific driver or special software. Mobile printing solutions for the Ricoh HotSpot MFPs are powered by PrinterOn®.

“Ricoh HotSpot MFPs fit into the future vision of our AIM Mail Center stores, which are becoming business solution centers rather than shipping centers,” said Michael Sawitz, CEO, AIM Mail Centers. “Ricoh has been a key technology provider to us for over 15 years, and we are excited to work with them to upgrade our equipment to Ricoh HotSpot MFPs, which hit right at the heart of what we’re trying to accomplish as we shift our business model.”

They must demonstrate not only the skills to deliver today’s MPS, but also the understanding, initiative and resources to prepare for tomorrow’s MPS. Leaders characteristically augment the full scope of MPS with a wide range of added-value services. As a result, they are frequently shortlisted by large and midsize customers.”

“We are very pleased with Gartner’s recognition of our position, which we feel accurately reflects our momentum and differentiators in the market. In particular, we believe this placement as a Leader recognizes Ricoh’s compelling approach to MDS,” said Mark Boelhouwer, vice president strategic marketing, Ricoh U.S. “Over the past ten years, Ricoh has been working with corporations throughout the world to help them effectively manage their documents. As global demand has increased for MDS, Ricoh has implemented and improved upon its MDS solution, taking MPS to the next level.”

Ricoh’s Managed Document Services offering brings together industry-leading expertise, technology and tools to optimize enterprise-wide output and business processes, with a focus on change management, environmental sustainability and continuous improvement.

Ricoh’s “Outservicing” approach to MDS is a continuous and collaborative journey that enables customers to operate as greener corporate citizens with engaged employees, optimized processes and greater profitability. Through application of a Change Management methodology that is designed to identify and permanently change costly end-user practices, customers get sustained savings, green reports to track the environmental impact of printing practices and more agile operations.

Ricoh’s change management strategy, toolkit and process allow the company to learn about its customers’ businesses and then design a solution focusing on their most critical asset – the employees. Understanding that office cultures cannot be changed overnight, members of Ricoh’s MDS Teams apply Prosci’s change management methodology. Prosci has become the leading provider of change management tools and benchmarking reports, working with more than 2,000 companies from 65 countries on research projects in change management. Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced that Gartner placed Ricoh as a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for multifunction products (MFPs) and printers worldwide.(1) GartnerAug 23 - RICOH NAMED AS LEADER IN ANALYST FIRM’S MAGIC QUADRANT FOR MULTIFUNCTION PRODUCTS AND PRINTERS  News pressrelease also available in pdf
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the launch of Ricoh HotSpot technology for Ricoh Multifunction Printers (MFPs). Ricoh HotSpot MFPs offer mobile users the added convenience of printing remotely, making HotSpot a viable solution for business travelers, sales reps, educational facilities, medical offices and others who require access to important files while on the go. Providing a hard-copy output solution for laptops, handheld devices and Web- enabled smartphones, HotSpot MFPs enable users to print securely across the Internet, without the need for a device-specific driver or special software. Mobile printing solutions for the Ricoh HotSpot MFPs are powered by PrinterOn®.

Ricoh HotSpot MFPs offer users fast and convenient printing options, all in a secure environment. By sending documents, Web pages and emails to a remote server, the data is converted into a printable file for the HotSpot MFP and is transmitted to the device. A secure release code is then sent to the user who enters the code at the MFP LCD panel when ready to print.

“Launching the HotSpot feature for the MFP is a critical step as Ricoh expands its mobile printing offering,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Office Printer Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Offering a secure, web-connected option that allows users to print from their smartphones to any Ricoh HotSpot enabled device, gives Ricoh customers a competitive advantage to better conducting their business quickly and efficiently in an ever-changing marketplace.”

Gartner, a leading IT Research Firm, recently ranked Ricoh number one in market share in the U.S. market for the combined black and white and color copier A3 segment for multi-function products (1). With the addition of built-in HotSpot capability on Ricoh MFPs, customers benefit from advanced mobile resources not standard with competitive MFPs. HotSpot technology can also be added to existing MFPs through a network device that can be installed easily and quickly. Since no drivers or network connectivity is needed to print to HotSpot devices, the need for IT department involvement is limited.

This announcement follows the recent launch of the Ricoh HotSpot Printing application for the BlackBerry® smartphone that allows users access to more than 2,000 publicly available printers.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the success of @Remote® Green Reports in the educational market. In particular, Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS), located in Annapolis, Md., has seen the benefits of @Remote Green Reports. Using Ricoh’s @Remote Intelligent Management System, the school district was able to track and better manage its print device usage, in turn moving forward its district-wide paper reduction initiative.

According to generated @Remote Green Reports data, from July – December 2009, AACPS saved more than 20 million sheets of paper, equaling 44,000 reams or almost $116,000 in paper costs. For 2010, the savings thus far have totaled approximately $108,729. In the last six months of 2009, AACPS printed nearly 76 million sheets of paper on the fleet’s 180 Ricoh networked print devices. The school district achieved a 60 percent print reduction rate by printing 44 million of these pages as duplex. @Remote Green Reports also estimate that the AACPS saved an amount of paper equivalent to more than 2,500 trees (1), with a projected reduction of 245,000 kilograms of CO2 by not turning trees into paper.(2)

@Remote® Green Reports, part of the Ricoh @Remote Fleet Reports, tracks environmental metrics for networked Ricoh print devices, measuring and reporting on device usage, including the amount of paper being consumed in different paper modes along with the amount of time devices spend in energy saving modes. Having access to print fleet usage data provides school systems and universities with a means to develop and track environmental print initiatives.

Customers in the educational market share common concerns in the managing of print devices in their fleet. Office equipment often is located throughout many school campuses within a school district. @Remote Green Reports supply output metrics for multiple devices across a large geographical area, providing real-time usage data for the entire print fleet. This visibility offers constant and efficient control of the fleet, allowing for quick responses to changing usage.

“Given the nationwide trend toward expense reduction coupled with positive environmental impact, Ricoh @Remote Green Reports is a powerful tool for school systems to both minimize paper consumption and effectively manage their print budgets,” said Shinji Satoh, director, Solutions Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “We are extremely pleased with the results of this technology in how it saves school districts money, paper and allows for them to better manage their own important environmental print initiatives.”

With the installation of @Remote, customers receive automated meter readings, automated toner and service alerts. In addition, Fleet Reports provide customers with access to web-based population and utilization reports, which further enhance their ability to self-manage and change print requirements remotely throughout the entire print fleet, as demanded. Green Reports are one component of the overall Fleet Reports.

Ricoh offers a full range of digital imaging products suited for any workgroup environment from SMB to Enterprise, including color and black and white multifunctional copiers, printers, facsimile systems, scanners, digital duplicators, wide format copiers and digital cameras.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced the completion of its 100 percent solar powered electronic billboard, the Ricoh Eco Board, located at 3 Times Square at the corner of 7th Avenue and 42nd Street. The Ricoh Eco Board, which is 47 feet high by 126 feet long, is the first billboard in Times Square to be totally lit by solar energy. It is powered solely by 62 solar panels and 24 thin-film PV solar modules, and illuminated by 16 LED floodlights. Ricoh made a promise not to use conventional electricity from the grid to light the Eco Board and will allow it to go dark due to lack of sunlight. By using only solar power to light the sign, Ricoh is playing a part in reducing the amount of carbon emissions released by conventional electrical power sources. A special ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Eco Board will take place on June 8 in New York’s Times Square.

“When Ricoh decided to advertise in Times Square, we wanted to do so in an environmentally-responsible way that would have minimal negative impact on the environment. Our hope was that the Eco Board would become a powerful symbol of Ricoh’s commitment to green practices and would challenge others to become more active,” said Jason Dizzine, Director, Corporate Communications, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Most billboards deliver a message, but this billboard is itself the message. For Ricoh, if the sign goes dark, that is ok. What is more important is that Ricoh is sharing in the bettering of our planet for everyone.”

Ricoh chose Rec Solar, one of the pioneers of the solar industry, to equip the top of the Eco Board with a high-quality series of solar modules optimized for low-light conditions. In addition, Ricoh worked closely with Cooley Group, which has been at the forefront of polymer technology and coatings on flexible reinforced substrates for nearly a century, on the thin-film PV solar modules, manufactured by Xunlight Corporation.

"Ricoh’s commitment to sustainable management is reflected not just in this solar billboard but in the products and services we offer our customers," said Ike Kakegawa, Vice President, Environmental Sustainability, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "We are making significant environmental contributions on a global scale through Ricoh’s Total Green Office Solution, which takes a holistic approach to document management, combining green consultative services, energy-saving imaging equipment and software solutions to help customers meet their sustainability goals such as saving energy and paper, and reducing waste."

Ricoh Group has been steadfastly committed to the environment for over 30 years. In 1976, Ricoh established an Environmental Protection Group responsible for keeping Ricoh’s environmental goals and strategies as a key consideration when planning, developing, designing and promoting new products and services. In 2009, Ricoh set medium and long-term targets for reducing the total CO2 emission (including the converted value of 5 gasses) by 87.5% by FY2050, and 30% by FY2020, compared to FY2000.

Ricoh has been named as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for the past six consecutive years at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Ricoh has also won the World Environment Center (WEC) Gold Medal for International Corporate Achievement in Sustainable Development in 2003.

Ricoh Americas Corporation presented 4 high school students with the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award at the 2010 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest pre-college science competition showcasing over 1,600 of the world’s leading young talent and their independent scientific research projects. The awards, which were hosted this year at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in California, were presented on May 13, 2010. The winning students will split a $25,000 scholarship from Ricoh for their impressive innovations in Cellular & Molecular Biology and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

The 4 recipients of this year’s Ricoh Sustainable Development Award are Roshan Palli and Joseph Corbett Ferguson, both of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky and Ryan C. Erickson and Holly C. Erickson of Los Alamos High School, Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Roshan and Joseph’s winning project was in Cellular and Molecular Biology (RNAi as a Safe Method of Insect Population Control). With the premise that most insects are controlled using pesticides that both contaminate the environment and have deleterious effects in humans…their study proved that RNA interference (RNAi) is a method that used double-stranded RNA to knock-down the expression of target genes having a significant impact on the survival of the Colorado Potato Beetle, CPB. Their results proved RNAi can be used as a safe, potentially less expensive alternative to pesticides currently utilized by farmers around the world to protect their potatoes, eggplants and tomatoes from CPB damage.

Ryan and Holly Erickson’s winning project was in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (Beat the Heat-A Reversible One Way Heat Panel). Their project proved that a linear heat pipe can be adapted into a flat transverse panel, able to function as a reversible heat conductor/insulator. Such panels could provide walls which insulate or conduct heat as needed, and have potential applications from naturally heated or cooled homes to heat transfer on space stations.
This passive, controllable, adaptable thermal diode has tremendous potential to impact clean energy research, as it provides a method of controlling the flow of heat in many systems, improving efficiency.

“Ricoh has a continued commitment to innovation and education that underscores the importance of environmentally conscious and sustainable technology,” stated Robert Whitehouse, Director, Environmental Management and Product Compliance, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “We are proud to present this award to 4 well-deserving students who both demonstrated the understanding and need for efficient technology development in today’s business community.”

The Intel ISEF provides a forum each May for high school students (grades 9-12) from more than 50 countries the opportunity to showcase their independent research. Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in local and school-sponsored science fairs. The winners of these events go on to participate in Intel ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. A team of judges from academia and business selected the winners of the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award.

Based on a Linux thin server appliance, @Remote Office allows businesses to remotely manage Ricoh devices, optimize device usage and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). This includes collecting device data, receiving and reporting service and toner alerts and enabling remote firmware upgrades. In addition, @Remote’s secure, Web-based reporting portal transforms captured data into valuable reports on population and usage as well as offers new Green reporting capabilities.

@Remote Office generates utilization reports that are available online, so businesses can access them anytime to identify ways to boost fleet efficiency and minimize operating costs. These reports show a variety of critical metrics using simple, intuitive graphics for Ricoh and third-party devices. With @Remote Office, administrators can easily examine print, copy, scan and/or fax volumes from managed Ricoh devices and identify under- or overused systems, reallocate resources and final optimal device placements. Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today introduced @Remote Green Reports, the latest enhancement to Ricoh’s @Remote Product Suite. @Remote Green Reports allow businesses to monitor, assess and report imaging fleet performance and employee printing trends in support of internal sustainability and/or cost reduction goals.

With @Remote Green Reports, users can track month-to-month trends in energy and paper consumption of their Managed Ricoh @Remote Compatible document output devices, allowing them to monitor fleet performance and the possible environmental impact device usage operations have on such areas as CO2 emissions* or conservation of forests**. This tool collects data from Ricoh networked multifunctional products (MFPs) and securely transmits the information to a Ricoh data center. The data is then processed into green reports that are made available to users via a secure, password-protected Web site.

The critical environmental metrics include month-to-month energy consumption comparisons*** of the Ricoh devices and the amount of time each device spends in each power mode — operation, stand-by, energy-saving/low-power and sleep — which varies greatly depending upon usage patterns and office workflow. These metrics allow businesses and IT centers to better manage their fleet in an effort to increase energy savings — for instance, adjusting the timers of devices, identified by @Remote as under-utilized, to go into a low power mode quicker than the factory default. @Remote Green Reports can also monitor, per device, the print output by page, reporting the percentage of jobs that are printed in duplex or combine mode (multiple-images on one page) and report resulting paper savings. The tool calculates and trends approximate CO2 emissions, paper and power consumption, as well as tracks approximate device paper and utility costs, for month-to-month comparison.

@Remote Green Reports can be customized with local data to estimate more accurately what the business saves on paper and device utility costs. Additional graphs and charts aid in tracking environmental performance of the fleet over time.
“@Remote Green Reports are a key enhancement to Ricoh’s Total Green Office Solution – our approach to helping customers personalize their document management solutions for the goal of reducing their environmental impact,” said Shun Sato, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The ability to manage resources efficiently – balancing environmental responsibility with productivity – is essential to organizations today. With @Remote Green Reports, decisions and policies on energy and paper reduction can be made based on actual usage trends, and not mere speculation.”

@Remote Green Reports are an important tool in Ricoh’s robust Managed Document Services (MDS) program, which focuses on total cost of ownership, business process improvement, security and compliance, and environmental sustainability. Beyond conducting assessments, implementing solutions and providing on-site and off-site management of fleets, Ricoh MDS uses a change-management approach to help customers change their document output practices across their organization, streamlining processes and cutting costs.

March 2010

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced the new Ricoh Aficio GX e5550N, the latest installment in its GelSprinterTM line of color-inkjet printers. Designed for business environments, the GX e5550N replaces the previous Aficio GX 5050N to provide a high-quality and affordable alternative to laser printing where speed and duplexing are required to meet high-volume demands. With Ricoh’s GelSprinter technology, the GX e5550N utilizes an enhanced viscous gel ink formula for better performance in dry environments. With fast drying, waterproof properties, this improved ink meets the realization of published yields while eliminating smudging, bleed-through and page curling.

In high-volume settings, keeping up with demand while maintaining high-quality results is critical. The network-ready GX e5550N supports workgroups with 30 pages-per-minute print speeds in both full-color and black and white modes, a fast 40-second warm-up time, and first print speeds of five seconds or less with the ability to print up to 999 sets per job. Print jobs flow seamlessly through a standard 250-Sheet paper supply that can be expanded by up to two 500-Sheet Paper Feed Units. Standard automatic duplexing further enhances productivity while saving paper as users can print double-sided at high speed on plain paper.
A key enhancement of the GX e5550N over the previous model is the use of bi-directional, motorized ink pumps, offering improved reliability and ink yields. Other essential features of the GX e5550N include a tilting LCD control panel for improved operability, the ability to capture counter data remotely with the option of Ricoh’s intelligent remote management solution @Remote, and support for the latest networking standards including Macintosh, host-based and PCL 5c/6 printing support.

The Ricoh Aficio GX e5550N not only addresses many users’ printing needs, but helps businesses to meet their environmental goals. An improved Economy Color Mode produces crisp text and graphics that increase the longevity of supplies. ENERGY STAR Version 1.1 compliant, the GX e5550N does not require heat to operate, using just 38 watts during normal printing and roughly 3.5 watts in Energy Saver Mode. Additionally, the system is manufactured free of hazardous materials and produces zero ozone emissions, resulting in a low carbon footprint with minimal impact on the environment.

“Most businesses rely on laser printers to handle a lot of their document output needs,” said Matt Sakauchi, vice president, Office Printer Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The GX e5550N with GelSprinter technology offers the speed and versatility of a laser printer in an affordable and reliable inkjet printing solution that not only produces outstanding color documents, but further demonstrates Ricoh’s commitment to helping our customers become more environmentally friendly in their business practices.”

February 2010

IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Ricoh today announced they have developed an advanced device and printing management system which infuses office devices with real-time tracking and monitoring to help firms significantly reduce their print-related costs, improve service and cut back on carbon footprints.

Through an Application Specific Licensing agreement with IBM, Ricoh will bundle the new system which is based on IBM Tivoli software, with its multi-function products (MFPs) making the new systems available for enterprise clients.

While IT services have become more managed and optimized, most businesses still do not have enough insight into and control of their printing devices’ use and costs. These costs extend beyond the hardware and printers to include consumables, labor for repairs and system updates as well as the high cost of energy and resulting carbon footprint. Underscoring the need for better print-related cost controls is recent Gartner research data which indicates that organizations that manage their printer, copier and fax fleets can save between 10-30 percent of their print costs.

“This new, enterprise-class system will give our global customers complete visibility across their fleet of printers and MFP devices, helping them to better manage and optimize printing as an office function,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Marketing & Document Solutions and Services Division, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The solution will also be a core technology for our Managed Document Services (MDS) offering.”

Tivoli software can manage a range of assets beyond the datacenter including office equipment such as printers, office MFPs and production printing machines. Tivoli’s Intelligent Gateway manages policies to control end-user printing features and tracks energy usage and carbon footprint for print services, reporting at the device, department and individual level.

In addition to print management and monitoring carbon footprints, the new system can identify service issues with devices and automatically route alerts to local service desks for remediation before service is affected. It will also capture and manage assets and supplies information, improving accounting processes.

“IBM’s design collaboration with Ricoh on this initiative demonstrates how we are bringing a new level of ‘smart’ to offices, and significant operational savings for the customer,” said Bruce Anderson, general manager, IBM Electronics Industry. "As CIOs work to drive down costs, printers and other office devices offer an attractive target for improvement."

In conjunction with Ricoh’s Common Access Card (CAC) Authentication Solution, AutoStore assures safeguarding of electronic communication in line with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) standards. Together, Ricoh and NSi provide authenticated users the ability at the multifunction product (MFP) to digitally sign and encrypt email, allowing only recipients with associated private and public keys to decrypt a message. When used with Ricoh MFPs, AutoStore ensures the secure delivery of business critical documents from the moment each document is scanned, thereby eliminating document loss, manual errors and unauthorized access.

“As a Ricoh CAC 2.0 certified solution, AutoStore is well positioned to aid the channel’s ability to sell into Department of Defense opportunities as well as supplement their traditional business with new business process automation services,” said Mike Morper, vice president, Marketing, Notable Solutions Inc. “Additionally, AutoStore is a cost-effective complement to Ricoh MFPs and provides businesses an effective way to extend the use of their MFP investment by automating many manual paper-based business activities.”

AutoStore also supports various regulatory and compliance requirements for OSHA, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and others. AutoStore is typically deployed in government and financial services markets or wherever there is a need for automating the processing and preservation of chain-of-custody evidence throughout the document capture and routing workflow.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced it will host Ricoh Healthcare InfoBriefs, seminars for healthcare professionals seeking to streamline paper-intensive medical processes. Held in seven cities across the country, attendees will hear from experts from both the healthcare and information technology industries on critical steps to maximize federal stimulus funding for healthcare, as well as achieve overall efficiency for the industry. Attendees will also participate in a technology showcase that will acquaint them with solutions that can securely integrate paper records, such as patient data, billing and claims, to an electronic-based system. Online registration is available at www.ricoh-healthcare.com.

A primary focus of the Ricoh Healthcare InfoBriefs will be the $20 billion in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) allocated to healthcare IT. The package, which is set to be released in late 2010, rolling into early 2011, will include incentive payments to physicians who implement and use eligible electronic medical records systems. Healthcare organizations that achieve “meaningful use” – as defined by the federal government – will benefit from near-term stimulus funding for patient care, as well as long-term incentives and investments in core healthcare technology. At each InfoBrief, Dann will address the stimulus package requirements, the timing of incentives and the steps providers and hospitals should take to maximize available funding through ARRA/HITECH. In addition to Dann’s keynote presentation, Ricoh’s Mark Minshull will provide a technology overview, describing how solutions from Ricoh will enable healthcare organizations to shave operating costs as well as achieve “meaningful use.”

“The healthcare allocation of the ARRA stimulus provides a tremendous opportunity for the industry to enhance efficiencies that will ultimately benefit patients,” said Mark Minshull, vice president and chief technologist, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “By offering the Ricoh Healthcare InfoBriefs in advance of the release of these federal funds, healthcare professionals will be educated on the value technology solutions provide today, and be prepared to maximize the stimulus when it is available.”

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the availability of Select Technology’s m3i Access Module to the Ricoh channel through the Ricoh Independent Solutions Vendor Program (RiSVP). Exclusively available to Ricoh, the m3i Access Module is an innovative user interface that allows users to control Ricoh multifunctional products (MFPs) remotely in circumstances when using the MFP’s own touchscreen is either not convenient or not possible. While intended to improve accessibility for all users, the interface has been developed to be of special benefit to people in wheelchairs or those with visual impairments. No dedicated hardware is required, just a browser and a network connection, and no software installation is required on external devices.

The m3i Access Module addresses both the public sector’s and private sector’s demand for information technology in compliance with disability legislation. To validate conformance with the technical requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the m3i Access Module was submitted to the Accessibility Evaluation Facility at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), a highly-regarded applied research and development organization experienced in improving product and technology accessibility for disabled persons including the visually and hearing impaired and those with impaired mobility. GTRI utilized their research and technical expertise in information technology, test and evaluation and systems engineering to evaluate the accessibility impact of adding the access module to a Ricoh MFP and to substantiate Section 508 conformance.

“In concert with Select Technology, we are committed to delivering solutions that enable customers to comply with disability legislation,” said Joyce Ouellette, director, solution marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “With our flexible and innovative solutions, customers will be able to maximize productivity, meet regulatory requirements and provide a work environment that is accessible for all.”

The solution transfers the user interface from the MFP to any external device with a compatible Internet browser, such as a PC, PDA or Smartphone. It employs state-of-the-art Web technologies to provide a dynamic and responsive remote user interface. The Access Module also takes advantage of existing assistive technology - for example a PC screen reader can allow selections to be spoken back to the user. The solution’s unique user interface has a clear, high contrast, scalable layout and can be operated using just the tab and enter keys.

“There are a lot of assistive technologies available to help with the printing process, so we were committed to creating a platform that would also help disabled users with the copying, scanning and fax functions of an MFP,” said Paul Weston, managing director, Select Technology. “The m3i Access Module is just the first in a range of innovative, customizable user interfaces that we have been able to develop only because of the Ricoh Embedded Software Architecture.”

One of three Ricoh Alliance programs, RiSVP, developed in cooperation with Ricoh solution partners and Ricoh’s direct and dealer channels, focuses on two key areas: expansion of channel marketing opportunities for RiSVP members, and simplifying solution access for Ricoh sales channels.
