News Releases

December 2009

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced the Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 Digital Imaging Systems. Ideal for small and mid-sized businesses, the MP 2851 and MP 3351 provide quality features Ricoh is known for, such as color scanning capabilities and secure document storage, as well as an increased print speed of 28 pages-per-minute (ppm) with the MP 2851. The MP 2851 and MP 3351 also feature solutions-based technology that provides a customized and unique user experience with Personal Paperless Document Manager™ (PPDM) and App2Me®, a brand new technology available in early 2010.

Enabling users to capture, combine, convert and share three different document types, including paper, PDF and Microsoft® Office files, PPDM makes document distribution easy, secure and efficient. Users can send paper and electronic files to virtually any destination including email, FTP sites, Web folders and content management systems. With PPDM, paper originals can be transformed into fully editable Microsoft Office documents or converted into WAV audio files. In addition, data from fillable forms can be extracted into a .csv file for analysis. PPDM also creates custom workflows for users, displaying a personalized view through the interface at their workstation.

The Aficio MP 2851 and the MP 3351 ship standard with one PPDM license and offer an upgrade path for four additional licenses at a discount of more than 80 percent off MSRP at time of purchase.

The Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 are the first digital imaging systems to feature Ricoh’s new innovative widget-based technology, App2Me. A revolutionary document management solution, App2Me enables users to create customized workflows and execute them anywhere there is a MP 2851 and/or MP 3351. Easy to use and compatible with laptops, desktop computers and various mobile devices, App2Me provides a unique, personalized workflow experience. After its official launch in early 2010, App2Me will be enabled throughout the Ricoh MFP lineup.

“We are pleased to introduce the Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 which continue Ricoh’s commitment to offer solutions-based products to our customers,” said Michael Hunter, director of product marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Through a combination of high-level security and affordability, these models greatly improve users’ workflow with the latest innovation required for today’s market”.

In today’s business environment, security plays a crucial role, especially since compliance regulations, such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley make it necessary to keep confidential records secure. With the Aficio MP 2851/MP 3351, administrators can restrict access to the system to only users who are authorized with various authentication methods. The Locked Print feature is another security function that allows users to protect confidential documents from being seen or accidentally picked up in the output tray by unauthorized parties. For organizations to meet the highest security requirements, customers can also use the DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) to prevent the possibility of reconstructing data from “latent images” on the internal hard drive.

The Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 improve overall productivity with print speeds of 28 pages per minute (ppm) and 33 ppm, respectively. Designed to make professional business documents easier to produce, the MP 2851 and MP 3351 offer a new external keyboard that allows for fast and comfortable data entry when configured with eCopy or GlobalScan NX solutions, as well as a variety of finishing options, including a 1,000-sheet booklet finisher with optional hole-punching. These models also include special design features that provide ease of use, such as a large Full-Color VGA Control Touch Panel, easy-access paper tray handles and animated menu guidance. The MP 2851 and MP 3351 come standard with monochrome printing and copying, plus color and black-and-white scanning capabilities.

The Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 are the replacement models for the MP 2550 & MP 3350 SP/SPF engines. Ricoh will continue to keep the MP 2550B & MP 3350B in the product line as a low-cost copier solution with a flexible upgrade path to monochrome printing, scanning & faxing.

The Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 models are available at the suggested retail prices of $7,600 and $9,250 respectively.

Information about RicohDec 29 - RICOH INTRODUCES THE AFICIO MP 2851 AND MP 3351 DIGITAL IMAGING SYSTEMS

November 2009

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that the Ricoh Aficio MP 9001 SP received an overall rating of four and a half stars out of a possible five stars from Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI). The Aficio MP 9001 SP exhibited outstanding overall print productivity, including an efficiency rate in BLI’s job stream test that is the highest of similar models tested to date, and very good overall copy productivity, image quality and ease of use.

BLI found the copy efficiency of the Aficio MP 9001 SP among the highest for the group in 1:1 and 2:2 models. Print image quality is very good, including above average ratings for text, line art, halftone range and solids. By default, these devices are configured for duplex copying which is one of Ricoh’s Energy Star features. Ricoh is one of the only companies to support this capability in this way. In addition, a standard duplex single-pass feeder (SDPF) scans both sides of a document in a single pass, and contributed to the device’s outstanding overall productivity for 2:2 copy mode. It also offers standard color scanning, and documents can be scanned to USB and SD cards in both color and black and white. The MP 9001 SP print efficiency is the highest of similarly equipped models tested in both simplex and duplex modes

Finishing options are robust, including two 3,000-sheet finishers and a 2,000 sheet saddle-stitch finisher. A production booklet maker is also available, as is a GBC Stream- Punch III option for punching collated documents in-line. The optional multi-fold unit offers up to six folding patterns such as half-fold, letter fold, letter fold-out, gate fold, double parallel and z-fold.

The 90-ppm Ricoh Aficio MP 9001 is targeted to customers who need to print high volumes with robust finishing capabilities, and who do not want to pay the premium cost of a light production device. This device is well suited to meet the needs of various environments such as Government, Education, Legal, Financial and Faith-based institutions. The 90-ppm model is a new addition to Ricoh’s product line offering speed, quality and robust finishing for all environments. This 90-ppm model is one of four devices that range in speed from 60-ppm to 90-ppm.

“We are happy to receive this rating from BLI because it validates our efforts to serve this segment of the market,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Marketing & Document Services and Solutions Division, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “This device fills a gap in the market, offering speed and quality as well as finishing capabilities like multifold at a lower price point. We strive to be on the forefront of innovation and technology, and are happy that the advantages of our Ricoh Aficio MP 9001 SP Series were realized in testing by BLI.”

“The Ricoh Aficio MP 9001 performed very strongly in BLI’s field testing, exhibiting outstanding print productivity and very good overall copy productivity, image quality and ease of use,” said BLI Assignments Editor George Mikolay. “The feature set is outstanding, and includes a standard duplex single-pass feeder that scans both sides of a document in a single pass to reduce wear and tear, which further contributed to the device’s outstanding overall productivity when copying double-sided documents. Color scanning is also standard, and robust finishing options make the device suitable for most any production-oriented environment. Add in its competitive price point, and it’s clear why the Aficio MP 9001 is worth a look for those environments looking to print high volumes at an affordable price.”

About Buyers Laboratory

For 48 years, Buyers Lab (BLI) has been the leading independent office-equipment testing lab and business consumer advocate. In addition to publishing the industryNov 24 - RICOH AFICIO MP 9001 SP PRESENTED WITH FOUR AND A HALF STAR OVERALL RATING FROM BUYERS LABORATORY
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that the Ricoh Technology Portal in San Francisco and Ricoh sales offices in Santa Clara and Contra Costa Counties received green certification through the Bay Area Green Business Program. The program, which recognizes organizations for their efforts to operate in an environmentally responsible manner, evaluates businesses based on compliance with all federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as sustainability efforts and a commitment to ongoing green efforts.

Receiving a Green Business seal means city and county auditors have verified that Ricoh complies with strict environmental standards to reduce waste, prevent pollution and conserve resources. To be recognized by the Bay Area Green Business Program, Ricoh’s offices had to meet strict environmental standards. Each county has its own green checklist and evaluates local offices based on the relevant county criteria. For example, San Francisco County requires composting, so Ricoh’s Technology Portal implemented a composting program.

“The counties of San Francisco, Santa Clara and Contra Costa are already our customers, so in an effort to be better partners, we wanted to be part of their green programs,” said John Schweizer, Marketplace General Manager, Northern California, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “We recognize the long term benefits of being green, and we are proud to receive these certifications for our offices in the Bay Area.”

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) Certification
In 2009, five Ricoh sales, service and training facilities achieved ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Certification, and the Ricoh Technology Portal in San Francisco and Ricoh sales offices in Santa Clara and Contra Costa Counties are scheduled to complete the certification process by April 2010. ISO 14001 outlines the steps for an organization to develop its own EMS, with special focus placed on energy consumption, use of natural resources, paper handling and treatment of waste. Ricoh has achieved ISO 14001 certification at every manufacturing plant worldwide and is now in the process of certifying its non-manufacturing facilities. The Ricoh Americas Corporation headquarters building in West Caldwell, N.J., also meets the certification.

Zero Waste-to-Landfill
Ricoh is assertive in its efforts to maximize resource productivity while minimizing the production of waste. In 2001, Ricoh’s U.S. manufacturing facilities were the first in the country to achieve zero waste-to-landfill status.

October 2009

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that its Common Access Card (CAC) Authentication Solution V2.0 is now available for exclusive use by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). This latest update to the smart card technology solution, developed in response to Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) that requires strong and substantial evidence of an individual’s identity to access the DoD’s vast global computer infrastructure including connected multifunctional products (MFPs), now adds an enhanced Scan-to-Email feature.

Digital imaging systems have become the great enabler for sharing knowledge across an enterprise. However, advances in digital technology have now led to the unauthorized collection of confidential, classified and proprietary documents and data. Ricoh’s CAC Authentication Solution V2.0 Scan-to-Email feature offers Scan with Digital Signature and Email Encryption through Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME), a technology that gives authenticated users the ability to digitally sign and encrypt email, allowing only recipients with associated private and public keys to decrypt a message.

The Scan-to-Email feature comes fully integrated into many Ricoh MFPs with 20 to 90 page-per-minute output speeds and requires users to insert their CAC into a reader on the MFP at walk-up. When a user selects Scan with Digital Signature, their user credentials are automatically embedded in the scanned document’s file properties. A token encrypted with the sender’s private key is then sent with the document to the recipient who confirms the authenticity using the sender’s public key. This verifies the sender’s signature, thus providing assurance of document integrity and accountability. When using Email Encryption, the sender uses the recipient’s public key to encrypt and lock the email message/attachments. This protects the confidentiality of email communication as only the recipient with the correct key information can decrypt and unlock the email. Ricoh’s CAC Authentication Solution V2.0 Scan-to-Email feature also supports AAA (Adaptable Authentication API) which allows for easy integration with other Ricoh and third party software, solutions and applications.

When it comes to encryption technology, the DoD often seeks products that are certified in compliance with the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Publication. Ricoh’s CAC Authentication Solution V2.0 is currently pending FIPS 140-2 Level 1 certification. A U.S. government computer security standard, FIPS 140-2, issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is used to accredit cryptographic modules that include both hardware and software components.

“With the many security threats the government faces, the U.S. Department of Defense needs assurance that their sensitive and classified information will not become compromised,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Marketing & Document Services and Solutions Division, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Ricoh’s CAC Authentication Solution V2.0 gives the U.S. Department of Defense the peace of mind that their MFP resources are effectively safeguarded, therefore improving the security and enhancing the integrity of their electronic communications.”

This independent unit of Eastman Kodak Company continues to unlock the power of print on-demand to maximize customersSep 11 - RICOH AMERICAS CORPORATION AND KODAK’S PRINT ON-DEMAND SOLUTIONS GROUP ANNOUNCE NEW PARTNERSHIP
Ricoh Americas Corporation, the leading provider in digital office equipment, today launched the Ricoh Pro 907/Pro 1107/Pro 1357 Digital Imaging Systems with black and white laser printer. These systems are an extension of the Ricoh Pro 907EX/Pro 1107EX/Pro 1357EX series which launched in July 2009. With its advanced performance and improved finishing features, the series is ideal for a variety of customers and is designed to better meet the current needs of today’s demanding marketplace.

With a powerful combination of speed, reliability and operational efficiency, users can rely on the Ricoh Pro 907/Pro 1107/Pro 1357 to deliver maximum results with extreme precision. The series leads the market in print speed with 135 pages-per-minute (ppm), and offers faster performance due to its enhanced memory architecture, which includes a standard 1GB RAM and two 160 GB Hard Drives. The series also provides its users expanded in-house capabilities, including a robust Data Center controller that enhances job management and limits the need for outsourcing. By handling a wider variety of media sizes and stocks, as well as high-volume runs of large, multi-page documents, the need to pause and re-load trays is greatly minimized.

Versatile finishing options give customers the ability to create a variety of professionally-finished documents, without interruption. The Ricoh Pro 907/Pro 1107/Pro provides customers even more options with a new Multi-Folding Unit that offers six patterns and a high-performance booklet finisher which includes a booklet trimmer. These features, along with the ability to support a wider variety of media sizes and stocks, provide customers a competitive advantage and significantly reduce labor costs, passing on additional savings.

Customers can expect reliable, un-interrupted operation in both the long-term, as well as during peak production. Driven by design enhancements to the drum and other components, the Ricoh Pro 907/Pro 1107/Pro 1357 identifies and corrects multiple-sheet feeding with an innovative ultrasonic sensor that improves detection accuracy. The sensor ensures maximum uptime for high-volume copying, printing and scanning, and uses precise airflow to ensure fast, error-free media handling. The series is also equipped with enhanced Trained Customer Replaceable Units (TCRU’s), which minimize downtime and don’t require a service call.

“With the release of this extended series, we’re able to offer our customers products and solutions they need in order to effectively compete in the production printing market,” said Carl Joachim, vice president of Marketing, PPBG, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The precision, versatility and performance of the series serve as another example of the best-in-class solutions we constantly strive for at Ricoh.”

Security continues to be an essential tool with the series extension. Advanced security features allow customers to protect sensitive customer documents, and the system itself, by requiring identification confirmation of individuals prior to system access. Internal and external authentication, along with access restriction, control which features authorized users can employ. Users can prevent Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, reduce the risk of virus relay and defend against user name/password theft with the Network Protocol On/Off function. Protecting data from interception, analysis and tampering with encrypted transmission is supported by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

The Pro 907/Pro 1107/Pro 1357 Printer version is available at a suggested retail price of $45,000, $55,000 and $65,000, respectively.

The Fiery controller delivers top speed, unmatched quality, advanced color management tools and powerful variable data printing (VDP) features to increase return on equipment investment for Ricoh customers. With the Pro C900-Fiery QX100 combination, print service providers can easily satisfy their customersSep 11 - RICOH AND EFI INTRODUCE POWERFUL FIERY QX100 FOR THE PRODUCTION PRINTING MARKET
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced an update to its latest locked print security solution, Enhanced Lock Print NX v1.3 (ELP-NX). This updated version, which protects an organization’s confidential and proprietary information by allowing users to store, print and manage confidential documents with the security of user authentication at a multifunctional product (MFP), now adds the distribution and retrieval option of FlexRelease Server.

ELP-NX allows an organization to capture all the benefits of shared, centralized MFPs without compromising document security. With ELP-NX, users can protect specific documents by selecting “locked print” from the print-driver menu, while network administrators can set “locked print” as the default for organization-wide document protection. ELP-NX users enter their ID and password on the MFP at walk-up. This ensures documents won’t be released by another MFP user or left unattended in output trays where others can easily view sensitive information.

The FlexRelease Sever option builds on the FlexRelease technology first introduced in Enhanced Locked Print EX, which allows users to send print jobs to one MFP but securely release them on a secondary MFP. FlexRelease Server for ELP-NX goes a step further, allowing businesses to provide FlexRelease technology across their entire fleet of MFPs and printers. Using a highly flexible print architecture that stores print jobs centrally, users can approach any ELP-NX enabled MFP or printer to access and retrieve their locked print jobs. FlexRelease Server can scale from a single device to thousands of MFPs and printers across an enterprise. FlexRelease Server supports Windows 2008 Server, Windows 2003 R2 Standard/Enterprise server, and Windows 2000/XP/Vista operating systems.

ELP-NX v1.3 is offered as a stand-alone product, as well as an option for Ricoh’s Card Authentication Package (CAP). CAP simplifies the user experience by eliminating the need to enter a user ID and password on the MFP. CAP supports the use of proximity card readers that can be used for authentication by simply passing a proximity card near a card reader attached to the MFP or printer. With FlexRelease Server for ELP-NX, the user authorization process can be automated using a proximity card with CAP. Utilizing a card reader installed on each machine, a user swipes their proximity card to authenticate his or her identity, allowing the MFP or printer to release their individual locked print job. This cuts down on the time required to manually input user login information while protecting sensitive documents from unauthorized viewers.

“The addition of FlexRelease Server to Enhanced Locked Print NX takes an already cost effective, document security solution and makes it even stronger,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Marketing & Document Services and Solutions Division, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Giving users the flexibility to walk up and print from any Enhanced Locked Print NX enabled MFP or printer increases workflow and productivity, while allowing network administrators to create a secure printing environment for their organizations.”

August 2009

Ricoh Americas Corporation today announced the launch of the “Personal Paperless Document Manager” (PPDM), a new desktop application that makes document scanning and conversion with network multifunction products (MFPs) easier and more personalized and effective. Developed with Nuance Communications, Inc., PPDM is designed for the Ricoh family of MFPs under the Ricoh, Savin and Lanier brands. The PPDM empowers users to eliminate paper processes by scanning documents directly to folders on a desktop and into ECM solutions.

PPDM makes scanning personal by allowing users to customize the MFP touch-screen menus directly from their PC, without the need for IT resources or intervention. The user experience is enhanced due to the seamless integration of a powerful desktop application with intuitive icon-based selections on the MFP touch-screen. The solution allows scanning at the MFP with single icons for scanning to the desktop, network locations and content management systems, such as Microsoft® SharePoint™. Finally, PPDM makes scanning far more effective by making it easy to accomplish many tasks – such as scanning to the desktop, creating a searchable PDF and converting to a formatted Word document – with one selection at the MFP.

“The addition of personalized scanning features within the PPDM solution is impressive, as users can now instantly customize their MFP touch-screen experience right from their computer. By making scanning easy and personal, and by enabling paperless PDF workflows from the desktop, individuals can streamline document management processes and help make their organizations more successful overall,” said Ron Potesky, senior vice president, Corporate Communications, Product/Solutions & Channel Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation.

Personal Paperless Document Manager – Easy, Personalized and Effective
·	Desktop Productivity – PPDM simplifies scanning with features that allow users to combine scanned documents with existing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint content – all with drag and drop ease.
·	Enhanced MFP User Experience – PPDM leverages Nuance’s patent-pending PaperPort PSP server component to provide users with clear icon-driven selections on Ricoh MFP devices, with automated delivery directly to the user’s PC.
·	Personalized Scanning – With the PPDM server in place, users can directly customize their MFP scanning menus on any Ricoh MFP on the network, eliminating IT customization requests and freeing the time of busy IT staff.
·	Robust Support for PDF – PPDM includes both PDF-MRC, which compresses scanned color PDF to be up to eight times smaller than image PDF files, as well as PDF Converter Professional, which adds allows users to create PDFs from any PC application, and provides robust support for viewing, annotating and editing industry-standard PDF files. PPDM also supports advanced PDF features, such as redaction, form-filling and digital signatures.
·	Time Saved – PPDM includes Nuance’s OmniPage software, the most accurate way to turn paper and PDF into editable Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents – complete with text, columns, tables and graphics. With the average office worker able to type at about 35 words-per-minute, and an average page of text containing 500 words, the document conversion features in PPDM can save 15 minutes per page compared to manual typing.

July 2009

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the move and upgrade of the data center hosting its Software as a Service (SaaS) document management solution, DocumentMall. The facility, managed by Savvis, Inc. (NASDAQ: SVVS), a global leader in outsourced internet infrastructure services for the enterprise, meets Statement of Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) Type II requirements, confirming that proper procedures are in place to safeguard customers’ financial data. SAS 70 reports meet the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) for effective internal controls by public companies.

Ricoh chose to move DocumentMall to Savvis’ data center to offer customers a higher level of assurance that even the most sensitive of data is protected and safeguarded, meeting SOX requirements. The Savvis facility also provides improved application availability and faster processing through multiple redundant utility servers at the web, application and database tiers. Enhanced system monitoring ensures uninterrupted service for those using DocumentMall to share, collaborate, archive and access documents over the Internet 24 hours a day. The increased computing capacity and a scalable architecture of the center offers more growth potential, enabling Ricoh to expand its DocumentMall service offerings and support the needs of a growing customer base.

“Ricoh is committed not only to providing customers with SaaS solutions like DocumentMall, but also evolving that software to deliver high-level information security, improved workflow efficiencies, and operational enhancements to help businesses run more effectively,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Ricoh Americas Corporation.

Ricoh’s DocumentMall provides businesses with a powerful document management solution at a fraction of the cost of traditional server-based solutions. The SaaS solution eliminates large upfront investments in software, hardware and IT support while helping customers improve document security, regulatory compliance and business continuity. DocumentMall’s seamless integration with Ricoh multifunctional devices enables customers to easily consolidate paper and electronic documents in a secure environment for storing, managing and sharing via the Internet. The solution also is eco-friendly in that it reduces the need for hard copy files, minimizing paper and ink consumption.

“Savvis is one of the world’s largest providers of high performance managed hosting providing Ricoh with highly secure facilities to protect its customers’ data,” said Bryan Doerr, chief technology officer, Savvis, Inc. “We also understand that regulatory and data security concerns are of the utmost importance to organizations today so we are proud to help Ricoh provide its customers with a secure and reliable solution to manage, archive and share information.”

DocumentMall was introduced in 2001 as a cost-effective alternative to installing expensive computer hardware and hiring a dedicated IT staff for businesses needing to store, share and maintain critical documents.

Information about RicohJul 20 - RICOH INTRODUCES DOCUCLASS EXPRESS DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and global leader in sustainability, is making significant environmental contributions on a global scale through its Total Green Office Solution, which helps businesses eliminate inefficiencies, reduce carbon footprint and adopt more sustainable business practices.

Recently launched, The Total Green Office Solution takes a holistic approach to document management, combining green consultative services, energy-saving imaging equipment and software solutions to help customers meet their sustainability goals such as saving energy, reducing waste and minimizing pollution. In addition, it ensures that Ricoh imaging equipment meets green procurement mandates and is designed to minimize environmental impact at every lifecycle stage.

IT departments are often at the heart of a company’s power drain, while small to mid-size businesses have identified utilities as the largest cost increase over the past two years, according to a recent survey from IBM. With an increasing number of businesses pledging to reduce carbon emissions and overall environmental footprint – as well as seeking methods to measure and manage these efforts – Ricoh’s Total Green Office Solution helps customers visualize the potential. It takes total workflow needs into account and customizes environmentally-friendly solutions to not only maximize productivity and save energy, but cut costs as well.

The Total Green Office Solution includes assessing customers’ workflow to identify ways to optimize fleet for maximum energy efficiency and incorporating hardware and software solutions that reduce paper waste. This can also include consolidating excess stand alone imaging equipment (copiers, printers, faxes, scanners) into fewer, energy efficient multifunctional-based product workgroups and implementing scan-to-distribute solutions to reduce the amount of hard-copy output.

“Long before ‘green was the new black,’ Ricoh invested time, money and other resources into examining our business operations and lessening our impact globally,” said Ron Potesky, senior vice president, Corporate Communications, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “We’re aggressively working toward offering Total Green Office Solutions to workgroups, businesses and non-profits of all sizes to collectively reduce waste, minimize energy use, maintain air quality, recycle the maximum amount of materials as possible – saving energy, and ultimately money as well.”

Highlights of the Total Green Office Solutions include:

Green Product Design and Manufacturing
Cradle-to-Cradle by design, Ricoh products are designed for maximum recyclability. Parts and plastics are standardized in order to recover the maximum amount of material when the product reaches end of life. These materials are put back into the general supply chain via the demanufacturing process. Ricoh products are also designed to restrict and prohibit the use of environmentally-sensitive substances that would have the potential of harming the environment at end-of-life, and maintain air quality in the office environment with low emissions of VOC, in compliance with standards set by green certification programs, such as Germany’s Blue Angel. Additionally, all of Ricoh’s products are manufactured in zero-waste-to-landfill facilities that are ISO 14001 certified for environmental management.

Energy Efficiency
All of Ricoh’s multifunction products (MFPs) and most printers and faxes are qualified for the newly launched ENERGY STAR version 1.1 label, which touts qualifying machines as 14 percent more energy efficient than the previous version. Ricoh machines have a quick warm-up time from low power mode, which makes power management features (that put machines into a sleep mode when not being used) virtually invisible to users. In fact, a fleet of 100 35ppm Ricoh machines can save approximately 11.2 tons of CO2 per year utilizing the Energy Savings Mode. In particular, Ricoh’s Quick Start-up Technology is a green feature in B/W MFPs that allows the machine to power up from a low power mode to full operation mode within 10-15 seconds.

Fleet Consolidation and Software Solutions
Ricoh advocates for fleet consolidation of older scanners, faxes, printers and copiers into fewer MFPs to reduce energy. As an example, six black & white laser printers consolidated into one Ricoh color MFP can cut energy consumption significantly and save hundreds of dollars on annual utility bills. Ricoh also provides customers with software solutions to minimize the environmental impact of paper as well as monitor output use and eliminate inefficiencies.

Toner Efficiency & Recycling
Ricoh’s PxP toner, a polymerized toner made from polyester resin, is designed to fuse at a temperature of 68 degrees F (20 degrees C) lower than that of its predecessor while achieving higher picture quality with fine and uniform particles. This lower fusing temperature means the copier/printer consumes less energy when in use. It also uses 35 percent less CO2 in the manufacturing process than conventional toners.

Ricoh’s B/W MFPs feature internal toner re-circulating mechanisms, extending the lifetime of a cartridge and minimizing toner going to waste.

End-of-Life Solutions
Ricoh offers a toner collection and recycling program, which keeps empty supplies out of landfills. Through its equipment demanufacturing program, 98 percent of Ricoh end-of-life equipment can be broken down and reconstituted into commodity streams of copper, steel and plastic, and returned to the supply chain with the remaining percentage being used as waste to energy. Since 2000, Ricoh has diverted over 30 million pounds of equipment from landfills as part of its end-of-life recycling programs.

Ricoh is committed to reducing its own CO2 emissions by 10 percent by the end of fiscal year 2010, and its overall environmental impact by 20 percent in 2010 and 25 percent in 2015. From an internal and external perspective, Ricoh is saving energy, reducing waste and minimizing the overall environmental impact on our world.

Additional accomplishments include:

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) Certification
In 2009, five Ricoh sales, service and training facilities achieved ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Certification.

This year’s tournament will be held from July 30 to August 2, 2009 at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire.

Environmental preservation has been a top priority for Ricoh for over 30 years. To build off this objective, Ricoh announced the new GIFT initiative (Green Initiatives For Tomorrow), which targets players, spectators and the broader audience. Supported by the Ladies Golf Union, LPGA, the Ladies European Tour, as well as this year’s players, the program encourages people to make changes in their daily lives to help reduce their carbon footprints. Information about RicohJul 14 - RICOH ADDS NEW SUSTAINABILITY ELEMENT TO ITS 2009 WOMEN’S BRITISH OPEN SPONSORSHIP TO UNDERSCORE COMPANY’S ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that it is now offering a robust Managed Document Services (MDS) Program. Managed Print Services (MPS) provides the foundation for this program, which focuses on total cost of ownership, business process improvement, security and compliance and environmental sustainability. While Ricoh has provided professional services for its clients for nearly a decade, its recent IKON acquisition and growing market demand for MPS has allowed the company to enhance its capabilities in this area.

Beyond conducting assessments, implementing solutions, providing on-site and off-site management of fleets, Ricoh MDS helps customers effectively change their document output practices across their organization, streamlining processes and cutting costs, which is especially critical in today’s economic climate. A new Managed Document Services logo with the tagline “MPS and Beyond” helps communicate Ricoh’s intention to deliver additional document management services.

Ricoh and IKON both had strong best practices with regard to MPS, but with their combined insights, Ricoh is able to take its services to the next level. In fact, together these best practices set the groundwork for Ricoh’s MDS Program. One of the most important methodologies Ricoh has developed from this fusion of expertise, resources and thought leadership is a strategic four-phase approach for effective managed services.

In the first stage of the MDS methodology, Ricoh utilizes DOCutivity® to assess the current document output environment of a business and identify the technologies, associated costs and process workflows in place. Then, in phase two, system architects design a new document management workflow blueprint that takes into consideration security regulations, process improvement, total cost of ownership and environmental sustainability. The third step entails the transformation of an old workflow system of a business to a new and improved version that introduces more evolved technologies which reduces risks, enhances efficiency and makes document management easier for the end-user. Last is the fourth phase – Ricoh manages the fleet, provides operations, continuous improvement and additional support services. Regardless of the hardware and software solutions implemented, Ricoh offers on-site and remote services to effectively govern the new and existing systems. Further, Ricoh’s support services do more than simply answer questions, troubleshoot problems and install supplies; they work with businesses to change output practices across their entire organization. There are a total of 23 Service Modules that Ricoh can deliver within the MDS Program.

Jun 30 - RICOH’S PRODUCTION PRINTING BUSINESS GROUP EXTENDS PRESENCE AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the availability of its Ricoh Aficio GX e3300N/GX e3350N GelSprinterTM color inkjet series, designed to provide an affordable, high-quality, duplexing alternative to color laser technology or consumer inkjets in small offices, workgroups, and classrooms. The new Aficio GX e3300N/GX e3350N printers use next generation GelSprinter technology that incorporates a waterproof, fast-drying viscous gel ink to eliminate smudging, blurring, bleed-through and curling for professional results.

In today’s challenging economic climate, companies are looking to increase productivity without impacting costs. The network-ready GelSprinters support workgroups with print speeds up to 29 pages-per-minute, 35-second warm-up times, and first print speeds of 7.5 seconds or less. The standard 250-Sheet Paper Tray allows for minimal interruption with the option of a 100-Sheet Multi-Bypass tray for heavy-stock paper that allows for banner prints up to 51 inches long.

Affordability can be found with the improved Economy Color Mode, delivering crisp text and color graphics for about the same cost-per-page as a black & white print. Additional cost savings are realized with automatic duplexing, high-capacity print cartridges, and bi-directional ink, all contributing to the lowest possible total cost of ownership.

As more companies look to “green” their offices, the Ricoh Aficio GX e3300N/GX e3350N series features a wide range of environmental attributes to satisfy the most environmentally conscious customers, without compromising productivity. Landfill waste is reduced as the printers use permanent print heads and its consumables qualify for Ricoh’s recycling programs. Additionally, the Ricoh Aficio GX e3300N/GX e3350N series requires only 36 watts of electricity when printing, making it ENERGY STAR Version 1.1 compliant.

“As the latest in the evolution of GelSprinter printers, the Ricoh Aficio GX e3300N/GX e3350N series allows businesses to increase their color printing workflow, while being conscious of their impact on the environment,” said Matt Sakauchi, vice president, Office Printer Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation.

The Aficio GX e3300N directly replaces the Aficio GX3000 and is Ricoh’s newest color printer with standard duplexing. In addition to improved image quality (up to 3600 x 1200 dpi) using a new viscous ink formula, this model adds an Ethernet interface to its standard feature set, making this RPCS model a better choice for single users with basic general office printing needs, including some duplexing.

In addition, the Aficio GX e3350N directly replaces the Aficio GX3050N. With all the same features and specifications as the Aficio GX e3300N, this model adds PCL 5c and PCL 6 page description languages and drivers, making it an ideal color printer for larger workgroups with more sophisticated printing applications.

Both printers are competitively priced at $179.00 US for the Aficio GX e3300N, and $249.00 US for the Aficio GX e3350N.

“It was a natural fit to work with Gigante Vaz in creating a blog that offers tremendous value and information to our core audience of IT decision makers,” said Don Marzetta, vice president, Marketing Solutions, CBS Interactive Business. “Our community is solely focused on IT-related issues from document management to security, and they thrive on each other to learn and seek advice to help their companies succeed.”

Paul Gigante, creative director and founder of Gigante Vaz, added, “We recognized early on that with all the conversations about document management that are occurring, Ricoh needed a way to both participate in and influence the conversations. Rather than try to pull users away from what they’re doing and bring them over to a fully branded environment for information, the Doc program joins the conversation and brings content to the leading sites IT professionals are already frequenting.”

The Doc program launched on the ZDNet and TechRepublic Web sites in May 2009 and will remain active through December. In addition, Doc resides on www.ricoh-usa.com.

Information about RicohJun 19 - RICOH DEMONSTRATES DIGITAL THOUGHT LEADERSHIP THROUGH CREATION OF NEW TECHNOLOGY BLOG – “THE DOCUMENTOR”
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced its new Aficio® MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series of black-and-white multifunction products (MFPs). Intended for large, high-volume workgroups, the devices combine speed and quality to ensure top-notch productivity and performance. As a result, the Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 devices are among the most competitive, technologically advanced high-volume MFPs on the market. The series also features an array of advanced functionalities, comprehensive security capabilities and professional finishing options to efficiently manage every aspect of the document workflow from input to management and output.

The Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series provides exceptional value to customers via faster print speeds, quick warm-up times and larger paper tray capacities to increase day-to-day productivity. With speeds of 60 pages per minute (ppm), 70 ppm, 80 ppm and 90 ppm, respectively, the series gets more done in less time. The series cuts down wait time with warm-up times from Power Off starting at 30 seconds for the Aficio MP 6001, and first copy speeds, ranging from 3.3 seconds to 4.2 seconds (depending on device). Standard paper capacity is an ample 4,300 sheets, including dual front-loading paper trays able to hold 550 sheets each.

With the new 150-sheet color single pass duplex scanner, clocking in with speeds of up to 55 color originals-per-minute and 80 monochrome originals-per-minute, scanning jobs can be completed in a fast and efficient manner. Users can also produce crisp, professional documents with 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi) resolution, perfect for high quality newsletters, legal documents or patient records. Keeping the environment in mind, the Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series is equipped with standard duplexing to cut down on paper use and energy save mode. Ninety percent of the energy consumed by a copier is used when it is idle; however, with the energy save mode the unit goes into low power mode after 15 minutes of non-use.

The Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series helps streamline document management by offering features that simply make sense, from document capture and distribution, to storage and management, to cost and assessment. Understanding that different workspaces have different needs, Ricoh equipped the new MFPs with the Java-compatible Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable users to create specialized custom applications. The devices also feature Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to directly search local databases and quickly locate Scan-to-Email addresses. The Stored Print option speeds up the process of reprinting by locking in document configurations without the need to re-process files or re-program settings. Optional facsimile hardware comes equipped with LAN faxing, enabling users to send documents to a fax number directly from the desktop. In addition, incoming faxes can be forwarded to a desktop or network folder, preventing documents from sitting in the fax machine outbox.

“The new Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series is positioned to enhance an already solid Ricoh high-volume product line. We went to great lengths to improve upon existing machines by creating agile MFPs with optimal imaging features,” said Ron Potesky, senior vice president, Corporate Communications, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “In particular, with print speeds of 90 ppm, the Aficio MP 9001 offers the necessary speed and productivity workgroups today demand while incorporating various document solutions for greater operational flexibility.”

The Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series gets the job done right with a variety of optional finishing units, enabling businesses to tailor the devices to suit workgroup needs. Customers in legal, financial and educational industries will benefit from the new in-line FD5000 Multi-Fold Unit. The unit offers six different types of folds including Z-Fold, Letter Fold-in (tri-fold), Letter Fold-out (tri-fold), Gate Fold and Double Parallel Fold (four-fold) which enhance Ricoh’s current finishing offerings. Users also can produce saddle stitched booklets for students or clients quickly and cost-effectively with the BK5010 Production Booklet Maker. In addition, for proposals, presentations and other professional documents, users can energize black-and-white documents with pre-printed full-color covers using the Cover Interposer.

Understanding that workgroups of all sizes must be vigilant against document theft, Ricoh equipped the Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series with cutting-edge security measures. To maintain productivity without sacrificing security, the devices use a Card Authentication Package, a feature that enables users to authenticate network credentials with the simple swipe of a card, automatically identifying the user and cutting down on the time needed to manually input user information into the MFPJun 18 - RICOH INTRODUCES AFICIO® MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 SERIES HIGH-VOLUME DIGITAL IMAGING SYSTEMS
Ricoh Americas Corporation announced today that its Aficio MP C2550 color multifunction product (MFP) was awarded a five star rating from Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI) in environmental performance. As a result of BLI’s rigorous evaluation process, the device was recognized as offering the lowest annual energy consumption and cost of all the Segment 2 models tested to date.

During the testing, the Aficio MP C2550 used significantly less energy in all running modes, including color, black-and-white, simplex, duplex, copy and print, when compared with competitive models in its speed range. The results of BLI’s environmental job stream test, which measures energy consumption for typical real-world usage, contributed substantially to its lower than average energy consumption rating.

BLI’s environmental performance test takes into account energy consumption as well as recovery time. While low energy consumption is an important efficiency measurement, it cannot be used to its fullest potential if the device requires a long recovery time from sleep mode. Therefore, BLI’s tests take recovery time into account. The Aficio MP C2550’s recovery time from sleep mode was considerably faster than average, resulting in more energy savings with less waiting time, earning it a 5-star rating in this aspect of testing along with its 5-star rating for energy consumption. Thanks to quick recovery technologies such as a compact, heat responsive fusing unit and new PxP color toner with a low melting point, more energy savings is possible with less waiting time.

“For over 30 years, Ricoh has placed environmental preservation as a top priority within the company, both in our global business operations and product development,” said Michael Hunter, director, Product Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “We are constantly exploring ways to help our customers improve their sustainability and energy usage and believe ‘green’ MFPs are key toward this goal. Obtaining the five star rating in environmental performance from an industry leader like BLI only helps to reinforce our commitment to environmental stewardship and product innovation.”

The Aficio MP C2550 has a toner-save mode. It also has a proof mode for copy and print jobs to save on consumable usage. In addition, BLI’s tests showed that the MFP’s overall copy and print productivity and noise emissions are competitive with other tested products.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that five of its sales, service and training facilities recently achieved ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) Certification. The internationally recognized standard, managed by the International Organization for Standardization, certifies corporations and businesses of all sizes that meet stringent criteria, such as creating, adhering to, and regularly evaluating its EMS for continual improvement, securing top executive commitment, ensuring resource and energy conservation and preventing pollution, while complying with relevant environmental laws and regulations. By certifying its EMS under ISO 14001, Ricoh has committed its business operations at every level to implement, maintain and constantly improve environmental practices throughout the corporation.

ISO 14001 outlines the steps for an organization to develop its own EMS, offering ways to systematically reduce its environmental impact. Special focus is placed on energy consumption, use of natural resources, paper handling and treatment of waste. Three of the facilities achieving the ISO 14001 certification are part of Ricoh Business Solutions, Inc. (RBS), the company’s sales and service division, and are located in New York City and Fairfield, N.J.; another is the Ricoh Technology Portal in New York City, a training showroom used to demonstrate products and workflow solutions. Both of the New York facilities are the first offices in their respective buildings to be ISO 14001 certified. The fifth location is a Ricoh Americas Corporation facility in Duluth, Georgia, which houses Ricoh University South and the Atlanta RBS division.

Ricoh has achieved ISO 14001 certification at every manufacturing plant worldwide and is now in the process of certifying its non-manufacturing facilities, including sales and services offices. The Ricoh Americas Corporation headquarters building in West Caldwell, N.J., also meets the certification.

“We are confident Ricoh’s environmental and ISO 14001 programs will continue to differentiate us as a sustainability leader in a marketplace that is becoming greener and more demanding each and every day,” said Joe Villanella, region vice president, Ricoh Business Solutions, Northeast Headquarters, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The certification is more than an acknowledgement of efforts made in the name of conservation. Achieving this rigorous international standard tells our partners, customers and suppliers that we are committed to protecting the environment and encourage them to do the same.”

Once an organization has developed an EMS, a third party registrar must perform a comprehensive audit to ensure the criteria of the ISO 14001 have been met. Ricoh’s overall environmental commitment, employee EMS awareness, ISO Web site, supporting materials and Ricoh Americas Corporation environmental initiatives and programs contributed to the successful certification. Many employees were interviewed during the process, demonstrating expert knowledge of the ISO 14001, EMS Policy, Fiscal Year objectives and programs, as well as a positive and concerned attitude toward the importance of sustainability. Continued external assessment audits will be conducted yearly and the entire EMS must be recertified for each site every three years.

For more than 30 years, environmental preservation has been a top priority for Ricoh. In 1976, Ricoh established an Environmental Division that works to keep Ricoh’s environmental goals and strategies as a key consideration when planning, developing, designing and promoting new products and services. Out of this group, Ricoh developed an Environmental Action Plan that envisioned society in 2050 and its impact on the environment and business operations, concluding that companies need to develop specific action plans by focusing on the environment in the long-term. Through this program, Ricoh will be able to help businesses maintain operational efficiencies and also reduce their carbon footprints through efforts such as zero waste-to-landfill.

May 2009

Ricoh Americas Corporation presented two high school students with the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award at the 2009 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest pre-college science competition, during a special awards ceremony in Reno, Nev., on Thursday, May 14. The students will split a $25,000 scholarship from Ricoh for their impressive environmental innovations in recycling and alternative energy.

The two recipients of this year’s Ricoh Sustainable Development Award are Andrew Kipling Miller of Western Alliance High School in Elton, N.C., and Hetal Anjibhai Vaishnav of Late Shree S.G Dholakiya Memorial High School in Rajkot, India. Both projects have patents in progress.

Miller perfected a way to boost power production from wind turbines. Mimicking the design of whale fins and using principles of aerodynamics, he designed and strategically placed protuberances or ‘bumps’ on turbine blades to more effectively capture wind power. The result is up to 40 percent higher energy output on the test windmills and the potential to expand the use of wind as an alternative energy source, particularly in areas with low to moderate wind speeds. His design also lowers the noise output of wind turbines, making them more attractive for use in densely populated suburban areas.

Vaishnav developed a way to convert typically non-recyclable multilayered film plastic, typically used for snack packaging such as potato chip bags, into recycled composite materials. Her composites are more durable, water resistant and less flammable than virgin plastics, plywood and other building materials. Consequently, Vaishnav’s invention has the potential to replace and out-perform these items while also diverting materials from landfills. Along with being economically efficient to replicate in mass production, her methodology uses no solvents, adhesives or binders and releases no toxic gases.

“Protecting the environment is critical to us at Ricoh, and we are proud to support the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair which encourages innovation in sustainability,” said Robert Whitehouse, director, Environmental Management and Product Compliance, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Both winners exemplify the principles of sustainability as they developed efficient, cost-effective and readily applicable improvements that will no doubt advance the business of environmental technology.”

The Intel ISEF, presented by Agilent Technologies, provides a forum each May for more than 1,500 high school students (grades 9-12) from more than 50 countries to showcase their independent research. Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in local and school-sponsored science fairs. The winners of these events go on to participate in Intel ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the Intel ISEF. A team of five judges from academia and business selected the winners of the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award.

This year marks the third year that the Ethisphere Institute, a leading international think-tank dedicated to the advancement of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility and sustainability, has published the World’s Most Ethical (WME) list. Ricoh joins a select group of companies that have demonstrated superb marks within seven broad categories that constitute a company’s ethics quotient. As a result of Ricoh’s sustained ethical leadership, the company, along with the other WME winners, has been deemed as one of the most ethical companies worldwide.

“Ricoh has proven to be one of the world leaders in upholding high ethical standards, making it a true standout in its industry, especially as unethical business actions and decisions grab headlines each day,” said Alex Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute.

Through a rigorous, multi-step evaluation process, Ethisphere’s researchers and analysts reviewed more than 10,000 companies in order to determine the finalists.
“It is a great honor to receive recognition from the Ethisphere Institute for our efforts as CSR has always been an integral part of Ricoh’s business. We’ve made steps to further expand upon our practices since 2002 when Ricoh became only the second Japanese company to sign the UN Global Compact and then the following year established the Ricoh Group CSR Charter and the Ricoh Group Code of Conduct,” said Kirk Yoshida, chairman & CEO of Ricoh Americas Corporation. “In collaboration with our constituents around the world, we’ll continue to work towards bringing our longstanding sustainable environmental management to an even higher level.”

The methodology for the WME ranking includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories, evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices, looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship, studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers, and working with consumer action groups for feedback.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced its new Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) technology that will enable users to leverage IBM’s WebSphere software in conjunction with Ricoh multifunction products (MFP) to drive complex business processes, centralize business integration infrastructures and reduce development costs. This new SOA solution will be shown for the first time at IBM’s Impact 2009 conference in Las Vegas, May 3-8 at booth #S14.

Based on a simple, Internet-like application on the MFP’s control panel, users can easily select from a customized list of tasks or services that initiate business processes and the results are communicated back to users in real time. The entire system is controlled by a touch screen on the MFP, in which capture and print processes are pushed to the panel in the form of an icon that clearly represents the business process. This enables complex backend operations to be handled by the touch of a button, dynamically simplifying the workflow for the end user.

“Ricoh is excited to be able to leverage the investments that customers have made in SOA,” said Mark Minshull, vice president and chief technologist, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Ricoh and IBM have collaborated to meet this growing need. As a result, we are providing a solution that easily plugs into an existing SOA environment and complements current Web-driven business infrastructures.”

Although Ricoh will be demonstrating a loan processing scenario, the Ricoh SOA Portal can be applied to a number of different industries, such as applications for insurance, government and healthcare. It can also help streamline internal business operations such as invoices, contracts, purchase orders and expense reports. Additionally, it gives users the option to customize each business process in order for the system to communicate bi-directionally. For example, if submitting a document that requires additional information, such as supporting documentation or a customer account number, the system will confirm for the user that all of the required items are included. If more inputs are necessary, the user is immediately notified and directed to fulfill the requirement in order to complete the process.

In addition to demos at the booth, Ricoh executives Mark Minshull, Greg Keys and Hiroshi Kitada will each be giving presentations on the SOA-enabled MFP Portal and the Ricoh-IBM alliance during Impact 2009. For abstracts of their topics and a complete schedule of presentations at the conference, please visit the IBM Impact Web site.

Information about RicohApr 13 - RICOH INTRODUCES AFICIO MP W5100/MP W7140 DIGITAL IMAGING SYSTEMS FOR HIGH-VOLUME WIDE FORMAT MARKET
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that two of Comsquared products – ImageDirector™ and YourSecurePoint™ (YSP) – passed Ricoh Developer Program™ (RiDP™) compatibility testing. These solutions, which are compatible with Ricoh multifunction products (MFPs), simplify a company’s document management system by easily capturing, archiving and retrieving documents. Comsquared is a Premier Plus member of RiDP.

Comsquared capitalized on their Premier Plus membership in the Ricoh Developer Program by using Java based SDK’s and unlimited developer support to create the ImageDirector and YSP products. Through Ricoh’s advanced Embedded Software Architecture (ESA) platform, developers have been able to increase customers’ productivity while reducing their cost of ownership by tapping into Ricoh’s open architecture. Nearly all of Ricoh’s MFP and printer lines manufactured after the fall of 2004 have the potential to run ESA. Legacy and new customers have the ability to harness the power within those devices by adding Ricoh developed and third party developer solutions.

ImageDirector is a complete document imaging solution that is embedded into Ricoh MFPs to electronically classify, index, store and retrieve documents. Easy-to-use, ImageDirector is managed from the Ricoh MFP’s intuitive, touch-screen control panel. All scanned documents are instantly archived with index identifiers for easy web-based retrieval. In addition, ImageDirector uses Active Directory configurations for user based authentication and audit trail accessibilities to further secure documents. A major differentiator of ImageDirector is the ability for users to scan numerous documents into the MFP, and then go back to their desk to index, freeing up the MFP for other users.

In addition to ImageDirector, YSP provides an alternate configuration for storing images and their associated data at a secure, off-site facility. YSP provides companies with the option of a low cost solution, requiring no large capital investment, no costly upgrades and redundancy in the case of disaster recovery. Once a customer scans their documents at their Ricoh MFP, it is processed and indexed on-site and archived off-site automatically once scanning is complete. Users can access their content via their desktop’s current web browser after entering a unique user ID and password. A major benefit of YSP is the ability for 24/7 instant access to search for and retrieve records easily from any location with an internet connection. To enhance security, all transmissions to and from the web-based document management servers employs Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encrypted data transmissions.

“We are happy that both ImageDirector and YourSecurePoint have passed Ricoh’s thorough testing process,” said Mike Benson, director of marketing and channel operations, Comsquared. “As a Premier Plus member of RiDP, we continually strive to introduce new solutions into Ricoh’s offerings, and with the introduction of these products we meet the growing customer need for efficient document management processes.”

The RiDP program is open to independent software vendors, Ricoh Major-Strategic Accounts, and colleges and universities. Members have access to the support, tools and services needed to integrate new or existing solutions with Ricoh hardware and software products.

“We are pleased to add ImageDirector and YourSecurePoint to Ricoh’s robust suite of solutions built on the Embedded Software Architecture platform,” said Mark Minshull, vice president and chief technology officer, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “These document management additions are cost-effective, and also help to promote our environmental initiative by allowing our customers to easily streamline processes and manage electronic content.”

Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, and Ricoh, the leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the “Personal Paperless Document Manager” (PPDM), a new desktop application that makes document scanning and conversion with network multifunction printer (MFP) devices easier, more personalized and more effective than ever before. PPDM, designed for the Ricoh family of MFPs under the Ricoh, Savin, and Lanier brands, empowers users to eliminate paper processes by scanning documents directly to folders on a desktop and into ECM solutions. The solution will be on display in the Nuance Meeting Room (MR351) at AIIM Exposition Conference 2009 in Philadelphia, March 30 – April 2, 2009.

PPDM makes scanning personal by letting users customize the MFP touch-screen menus directly from their PC, without the need for IT resources or intervention. The user experience is enhanced due to the seamless integration of a powerful desktop application with intuitive icon-based selections on the MFP touch-screen. The solution allows scanning at the MFP with single icons for scanning to the desktop, network locations and content management systems such as Microsoft® SharePoint™.

“Our customers face increasing pressure to improve workflow, enhance security and cut costs each day. Working with a company such as Nuance enables Ricoh to hold true to our mission of providing robust and stable solutions that address our customers’ specific business needs and provide them with tangible tools to help improve their bottom-line.”

·	Robust Support for PDF – PPDM includes both PDF-MRC, which compresses scanned color PDF to be up to eight times smaller than image PDF files, as well as PDF Converter Professional, which adds allows users to create PDF from any PC application, and provides robust support for viewing, annotating and editing industry-standard PDF files. PPDM also supports advanced PDF features such as redaction, form-filling and digital signatures.

“Ricoh is a leader in MFP solutions for many reasons, not the least of which is its deep understanding of customer needs,” said Robert Weideman, general manager and senior vice president, Nuance Document Imaging Division. “PPDM isn’t simply a scanning application, but rather a document desktop that makes it easy to use, share and store all the documents on a user’s PC. With this new solution Ricoh has made it possible for organizations to provide their staff with everything needed to save hours every day by instantly turning paper into online digital documents.”

Information about RicohMar 19 - RICOH INTRODUCES NEW FULL-FEATURED AFICIO SP C231SF/SP C232SF AND AFICIO SP C311N/SP C312DN FOR SMALL OFFICE MARKET
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced four specialty papers now compatible with its Aficio® SP C420DN color laser printer and Aficio SP C410DN-KP HotSpot color laser printer. End-users will be able to print marketing, educational, training and other documents on laser cling, magnet, durable and waterproof paper. These versatile papers, tested and recommended by Ricoh and made available through its partner, Continental Datalabel, seek to help all types of organizations increase the visibility and effectiveness of their communication efforts.

This is the first time these types of papers have been available to Ricoh customers and is the first product line of its kind for Continental Datalabel. With that in mind, the line will continue to evolve and grow to offer consumers a robust assortment of papers to support their organizational needs. The papers are available for purchase from Ricoh online at consumables.compulabel.com, and end-users will be able to choose from the following:

Xerotab magnet – With Xerotab magnet paper, users can quickly print magnets in full sheets. Useful in marketing or educational environments, the magnetized paper is suitable for school calendars, retail giveaways or business cards.
The Xerotab magnet paper requires the use of the Xerotab magnetizer to function, which can be purchased separately via the consumables Web site.

Laser Kling film – Laser Kling paper uses the power of static cling to stick to windows, vinyl signs and other smooth surfaces. The paper is waterproof so it is suitable for outdoor use, such as to customize outdoor signs with updated sale or contact information. The paper can be used in a wide range of applications, is easily printed on for window advertising campaigns in retail locations as well as for outdoor decorations in schools.

Duracopy film – For documents that receive a lot of handling – music sheets, training manuals or employee handbooks – Duracopy film keeps them crisp. The heavy, polyester paper resists rips, folds and crinkles from regular use, eliminating the need to continuously print new copies. It’s also waterproof, ideal for outdoor brochures and posters.

Aqua Ace – Liquids are no match for Aqua Ace film. The glossy thick paper is waterproof and fade-resistant, making it perfect for outdoor signage, posters or restaurant menus. Retail locations will find it a great solution for point-of-purchase signage, price tags and brochures.

“This partnership with Continental Datalabel fits with Ricoh’s mission to provide the total office solution. With these special papers, end-users will benefit from the ability to create documents for multimedia use, taking their marketing, educational and retail objectives to new heights,” said Matt Sakauchi, vice president, Office Printer Business Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “The papers require relatively no learning curve and offer intuitive functionality, so end-users can easily complete small print jobs that they normally would need to send out to third party print shops – saving time and money in the long-run.”

The Aficio SP C420DN is designed for businesses in color-intensive environments, combining high productivity printing with speed, a simple user interface, and low total cost of ownership. The device even features a front-loading paper feed to conveniently load media for quick, efficient results. In addition to high-quality color prints and quick job processing, the Aficio SP C410DN-KP printer is ideal for on-the-go remote printing. To initiate a print job, users simply forward any email, with or without attachments, from a mobile handheld device – such as a PDA or Internet-enabled cell phone – to the HotSpot printer’s e-mail address. No drivers are required and users enjoy the same functionality, quality and speed as they would in their office environment.

Available in packages of 50 sheets, the papers are currently available at consumables.compulabel.com or by visiting www.ricoh-usa.com and clicking on the appropriate link.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the release of DigiDocFlow middleware solution, a simple scanning platform that reduces the need to fax, mail and courier hardcopy documents in office environments. The solution is available to the Ricoh Channel through the Ricoh Independent Solutions Vendor Program (RiSVP). DigiDocFlow, a product of X-Solutions, equips businesses of all sizes with the power of scanning simplicity.

In three effortless steps, documents are directly scanned from most Ricoh multifunction products (MFPs) and stored as text-searchable PDF files. The solution’s scanning capabilities enable organizations to implement paperless processes that reduce their environmental footprint by eliminating the need for hardcopy documents. Integration is made seamless with DigiDocFlow, which runs on MFPs already familiar to the user, reducing the amount of training necessary. Customers can also scan to various locations, including network folders, e-mail addresses, and line of business applications such as OpenText, SharePoint, Worldox, and Thomson Elite, all in one step.

“We are delighted to partner with Ricoh in creating solutions that enhance environmental stewardship in office settings,” said Wouter Koelewijn, CEO, X-Solutions. “We are dedicated to bringing solutions to market that are easy-to use and provide added value for Ricoh customers.”

One of three Ricoh Alliance programs, RiSVP, developed in cooperation with Ricoh solution partners and Ricoh’s direct and dealer channels, focuses on two key areas: expansion of channel marketing opportunities for RiSVP members and simplifying solution access for Ricoh sales channels. By providing RiSVP member products directly from Ricoh, the direct and dealer channels have more opportunities for new revenue growth combined, as well as simplified sales operations. In turn, RiSVP members enjoy faster and greater financial return on the investments they have made in developing solutions that when combined with Ricoh’s award-winning product portfolio address customers’ key concerns.

“Ricoh is continually working to create sustainable business process offerings for our clients and is pleased to welcome X-Solutions’ DigiDocFlow to our RiSVP portfolio,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “With X-Solutions, we plan to work toward effectively addressing our customers’ need to reduce their environmental footprint as well as improve their overall bottom line.”

Ricoh recognized the MFP would become the focal point of all business equipment and blazed a path to provide an open architecture platform to expand the products usefulness. Through our patented “Embedded Software Architecture” (ESA), developers have utilized the most extensive tool offering in the industry to create unique solutions, which have far exceeded customer expectations. Developers enjoy a wide range of individualized support options that have allowed them to reduce development costs by speeding up the development process. Customers have benefited from ESA through productivity increases and the use of existing technology to solve the ever-changing myriad of business challenges. Ricoh’s MFP’s running ESA have evolved from merely printing, scanning and faxing to providing end users with the profound realization they have truly purchased a full service business center.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the release of the RightFax Connector for embedded software architecture (ESA) enabled multifunction products (MFPs). Ricoh’s RightFax Connector enables businesses to integrate their existing IT and RightFax infrastructure without adding new fax processes or middleware, providing users with a single interface for electronic and hard copy faxing directly from Ricoh ESA MFPs.

Ricoh’s RightFax Connector allows businesses to integrate directly with an existing RightFax Server or FaxPress appliance. The RightFax Connector reduces the learning curve typically associated with a fax solution upgrade, all at a lower total cost of ownership (TCO). IT administrators can avoid hidden support costs by being able to integrate a Ricoh fleet directly into an existing RightFax Server. Since no additional software or middleware is required, the RightFax Connector allows IT administrators to maintain familiar MFP environments for all users, who are able to access existing RightFax features from the MFP’s intuitive touch-screen interface.

“Ricoh’s ability to develop direct integration to an existing RightFax environment through our embedded software architecture will allow us to continue to bring our customers unmatched offerings that bring real enhanced value to core business processes,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Ricoh Americas Corporation.

In addition, environments with shared MFPs are assured that sensitive information and fax documents are kept secure. The RightFax Connector supports all the security features of the RightFax Server and FaxPress such as encrypted email delivery. To further enhance security, user authentication is required at the MFP to verify a user’s privileges and tamper-resistant document delivery options are available.

Therefore, companies avoid accidental disclosure of sensitive information and, at the same time, reduce unnecessary document printing. The security features of the Pharos iMFP for Ricoh also help organizations do their part to meet several security regulation mandates, including HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley.

Located inside the MFP and powered by Pharos Blueprint® Enterprise or Pharos Uniprint®, users access the Pharos iMFP for Ricoh right on the MFP touch screen. This interface provides users a seamless transition to this solution for printing, coping, scanning, faxing or emailing documents through the device. To streamline print and copy accounting, the Pharos iMFP for Ricoh allows users to select a cost center when issuing print and copy jobs. Pharos Blueprint and Pharos Uniprint also track MFP usage and can create reports that give businesses insight into workflow volumes per department, device utilization rates, prints per employee and more. In turn, organizations can make more effective purchasing and IT decisions using this data to measure their precise needs.

Feb 10 - RICOH STREAMLINES DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT WITH ARCHIVE STUDIO SOLUTION
Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the preliminary showing of its new embedded intelligence technology with IBM’s Tivoli Monitoring and Asset Management for IT at the IBM Pulse conference in Las Vegas. The solution monitors and reports on Ricoh multifunction product (MFP) energy consumption and automates settings based on a corporation’s environmental management objectives. The solution will be on display for demonstration February 8-11, 2009, at booth #70 in the IBM Industry Zone at Pulse Solutions Center.

Ricoh’s solution tracks the activity of all Ricoh MFPs connected to a network in order to gauge real-time metrics of power usage through IBM’s Tivoli system management software. An IT administrator can define customized metrics by defining parameters on an individual company’s cost reduction and sustainability goals. The Ricoh system is able to identify when established thresholds have been reached and will automatically adjust the network’s settings. For instance, if all users in a particular workgroup are not using their computers, the system will recognize this inactivity and automatically shut down the workgroup’s MFP to a sleep mode, greatly reducing power consumption and costs. Ricoh’s solution can also enable a company to apply print rules that push settings onto workgroups. Therefore, if a particular group is consistently failing to meet the company’s sustainability goals, the settings can force users to duplex or limit prints in order to better manage and improve the company’s carbon footprint.

“Environmental issues and sustainable practices are at the forefront of business now more than ever. Therefore, Ricoh and IBM are demonstrating an innovative solution for managing MFP power consumption,” said Mark Minshull, vice president and chief technologist, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Ricoh and IBM are leaders in promoting sustainability both internally and to our customers, and this solution, which integrates our leading technologies, is another example of how we can help customers ‘green’ their operations while also improving their bottom line.”

Previously, adjustments for power management had to be made manually, often for each individual product. With the new Ricoh solution with Tivoli, all adjustments are made automatically based on an enterprise’s environmental policies. Additionally, Tivoli can change the energy settings for all IT assets connected to the network simultaneously from the desktop of the administrator.

Minshull will also be leading a breakout session at the conference for attendees titled “Leveraging IBM Service Management and Ricoh Embedded MFP Intelligenceto Deliver a Total Green Office Solution.” The session will focus on the implementation of IBM’s through IBM’s Tivoli Monitoring and Asset Management for IT software with Ricoh’s embedded solution. Minshull will give insight into trends in green management and industry standards, as well as ways to consolidate and improve office equipment utilization with asset optimization. The session will be held at 10:30 am (PST) on February 10 in room 106 at the Conference Center of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, announced today the availability of Ricoh® Reform® PDC. Developed by FabSoft exclusively for the Ricoh platform, this print, distribution and capture solution automates mission critical workflow for organizations and offers customizable features, which enable it to fit the processing needs of multiple industries.
Improving document management can be an overwhelming and time consuming task, but Reform PDC allows businesses to easily improve existing workflows as it produces and distributes business forms straight from any host system, application or Ricoh multifunctional product (MFP). Once the system captures print stream data, it places the information into the designated business processing form and automatically distributes it to the user’s selected print, email, fax and archive systems. If operating via a Ricoh MFP with the optional Reform Modular Object Scanning Technology (MOST) plug-in, users are able to manage multiple forms on demand and have better control of distribution. The automation capabilities of Reform PDC give users time to focus on core competencies and reduce human errors to enhance workflow management at a lower operational cost.
For many industries, such as construction, healthcare, legal, insurance and manufacturing, tracking and tracing critical documents ranging from permits and contracts to claim reports
and admission forms is vital. This tedious, yet necessary process is easily programmed with Reform PDC’s optional TagDoc feature, which adds bar codes to documents to enable workflow monitoring and enhanced distribution methods. Additionally, the optional Document Authority Control (DAC) capabilities offer the power to supervise and regulate the path of sensitive documents that must be signed by certain parties before processing them. Together, these features add great value to an organization by streamlining document workflow and reducing the risks associated with lagging processing systems.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, announced today the availability of an improved Dataworks3 ARCHIVE module for seamless integration with its award-wining DocumentMall solution for on-line document sharing and management. Combining a variable data printing middleware and a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution provides customers superb automation capabilities and streamlines the collection and storing of important transactional and promotional documents, eliminating time-consuming and error prone manual intervention.
Variable data printing projects can involve large volumes of transactional documents such as invoices, statements, and more. Since these documents may be subject to regulations concerning retention and security, archiving is an essential part of the business process as is the ability to retrieve any one document to respond to an inquiry or request. To help businesses expedite this task, the Dataworks3 ARCHIVE module can be configured to automatically archive to DocumentMall’s 24x7 online repository as part of the printing process. Variable data used to populate these vital business process documents is used for indexing in DocumentMall. Users can utilize the index values to search and quickly retrieve a specific document from DocumentMall. In essence, businesses garner enhanced search and retrieval capabilities, which previously cost them excessive time and money as a result of unnecessary physical interaction and hard copy output.
By automating document creation and storage, this integrated solution limits access to information that may be subject to HIPAA or Sarbanes-Oxley regulations and provides safeguards through user level authentication to help increase compliance. Furthermore, due to its online presence and various security measures, DocumentMall is an effective instrument in disaster readiness and business continuity planning.
“Organizing document workflow is imperative to any business function as it creates efficiencies that can reduce inaccuracies, streamline processes and minimize operational costs,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Having the ability to integrate the variable data printing capabilities of Dataworks3 with a powerful storage solution such as DocumentMall provides additional value to our customers while helping them achieve their information security, compliance and disaster recovery objectives.”
