Resource Conservation and Recycling - Products
Product Goal:
Increase the resource recovery rate for copiers, facsimiles, and laser printers, including toner cartridges, to over 90% by the end of FY 2001.
- Recyclable Designs
Recycling begins not at recovery but at the product design stage. Ricoh products are designed for rapid demanufacturing and sorting of components, which drastically reduces energy consumption in the recycling process.
- Recycling of Plastic Parts
Since 1994, Ricoh has standardized the plastic materials it uses and labels the material and grade of each part, enabling recovered plastic parts to be sorted by grade. Sorting keeps plastics consistent, which is the only way to assure consistent quality.
- Recycling Centers
Ricoh Group has formed a network of recovery centers, recycling centers, recycled equipment manufacturers and plastic material manufacturers throughout the U.S. and Japan. We have also created mechanisms by which recovered materials are reproduced as parts for Ricoh products.
- Recycling of Toner Cartridges
The toner cartridges in certain Ricoh fax, printers, and some small copiers are part of the imaging unit that includes many re-usable and recyclable parts. Ricoh has developed a turnkey system that makes it easy for consumers to return empty cartridges, at no cost, to the factory where they were manufactured.
